His compulsion to have this behavior is strong as he is smart enough to know his entire present and future could be destroyed, yet he did it anyway as he did it before and suffered consequences. He needs to have serious mental help and that may not work, either, as it didn’t the last time. I suspect he is in denial of how serious his problem is.

One would think he wouldn’t want to show his face in public but what is he doing? Out there in the public everyday - “See me, here I am.”

Definitely, but that is kind of the norm with compulsive or addictive behavior, isn’t it? Smokers know that smoking will kill them, but they do it anyway. A child molester released from jail knows that if they molest again, they’ll probably end up right back in jail, but they do it anyway. If the urge is strong enough, future negative consequences aren’t enough to dissuade someone.
