Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip...
"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.
His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.
Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.
He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

You too funny.
Ralph Cotton, is that you?
I could care less what this Pope says about sodomites. The Catholic Church is not changing it’s position on homosexuality. Every human being is called to receive a gift of divine sonship, to become a child of God by grace. However, to receive this gift, we must reject sin, including homosexual behaviorthat is, acts intended to arouse or stimulate a sexual response regarding a person of the same sex. The Catholic Church teaches that such acts are always violations of divine and natural law.
But plain and simple John Paul II said a man with strong homosexual tendencies should be denied admittance into the priesthood. That sounds good on the surface but homosexuals lie like hell to get what they want. They also can not be trusted around young men. That is fact. But once again they lie when asked about their sexuality. How does the Church keep them out? They can’t. But the Church could damn sure kick them out of the priesthood when they molest someone. The same thing can be said of school teachers, firemen, cops, etc. Fire these perverts instead of giving them their job back because their immoral desires will never go away and they will eventually do the same thing again. That is the nature of the beast called sodomy.
Thanks their master Satan.
The Catholic Church is not anti-Semetic. Read your history about Luther and his hatred of Jews.
I do not see the answer here
In any case, this is written to catholics
There is nothing in the Church that says that unless one is catholic they are not going to heaven
It is a lie
Then you need to keep reading. He says PLENTY homosexuality. From Old Testament to New.
priests take a vow of celibacy !
so the pope is now saying it's ok for men to pack fudge with other men but not with a woman in holy matrimony !???
Amen, However my point remains. Winos are not forcing people to accept their behavior, have parades in their honor and teach our children to embrace them and their sin.
Homos are and the Pope should take a strong stance against that sin, not dismiss it casually.
I tried! :-)
Not the same. Homosexuality is a spirit...an oppressive spirit that gets ahold of someone and if not dealt with on a spiritual level, most times leads to premature death and most of those times it is via suicide.
There is a reason why homosexuality is dealt with so harshly in the scriptures...even the appearance of it... it spreads like a plague because that is how demonic spirits work.
Again, the bible is clear even on the effeminate...
It is simply not to be “tolerated” in the church. Period.
What an apostate heretic.
This from the Pope who said follow me on twitter and I’ll reduce your days in the fictional purgatory.
Sounds about right.
You are right and further Francis is talking about priests who are homosexual.as with heyerosexal priests they will, or should, be celibate. If they honor the vow of celibacy their sexual proclivities mean nothing as to their role as priests.
Some examples --- which I am personally and painfully familiar with as a RCIA teacher --- would be unmarried couples who are cohabiting, or divorced, remarried people, Christian but not Catholic, who want to enter the Catholic Church.
If we (the RCIA teaching team) become aware that we've got a cohabiting couple on our hands, we'd tell them they shouldn't be living together, encourage them to live apart and cease sexual relations, and tell them that after they enter the Church, if they love each other, they should marry in the Church.
The alternative, harsher approach would be just to blast filthy fornication; but the more encouraging approach would be better. And knowing they probably can't make that decision instantly, we'd encourage them to keep taking the RCIA classes (we wouldn't kick them out) but tell them that when the Easter Vigil comes, they can't receive Baptism-Communion-Confirmation unless they cease this objective condition of sin.
Jesus didn't take the occasion, with the woman about to be stoned, to verbally blast adultery (although He was clearly against adultery); rather, He showed mercy, explicitly avoided "condemning" her ("neither do I condemn you"), and told her to sin no more.
A similar situation is where a Christian-but-not-Catholic divorced/remarried married couple wants to enter the Catholic Church. While their first spouses are still alive, such people cannot be received into the Church unless and until their first marriage is found "null" --- which it may or may not be. A "finding of nullity" can take months or years --- especially if they have multiple failed marriages in their past --- and even then, the Tribunal might uphold the Bond, i.e. no annulment.
In these situations, the couples are to be given every encouragement to live a Catholic life as well as they can (attend Mass, teach the Catholic Faith to their children, become involved in parish life )while pursuing an annulment that may or may not ever happen.
That is: instead of constantly smacking them for living in second marriages which are (at least technically) adultery, they are just encouraged to patiently attend the RCIA classes, pray like Catholics, live like Catholics to the extent they can, and trust God (until their previous spouse dies, or the Tribunal grants an annulment.)
Are these examples somewhat clarifying? They're as close as I could come to analogous, off the top of my head and from my own experience.
Great scriptures. I am BOOKMARKING this.
I think the real issue here is that it’s priests he was discussing, no?
If a priests has homo tendencies, how would we know?
Unless, he acted on it or talked about it...and EITHER should be a case for dismisal from leadership positions, ESPECIALLY OVER CHILDREN.
To have the "gay," tendancy does not mean thay act on it, or think it is okay. The LDS Church has made it clear that a person can be, in essence, a cellebate "gay," if they turn their life around and cease taking part in the life style and depend on Christ Jesus for redemption.
But, if they are actually "open," in the sense that they are giving in to those temptations/tenandcies and taking part in an active homosexual lifestyle, or if it is found out that they are, then they will not only be removed from such a position, they will either be dis-fellowshipped or ex-communicated.
“Im not Catholic but as I understand this unless the Pope changed the position of what the RCC teaches on celibacy and natural marriage, he still opposes homosexual(and all other non-marital) sexual relations.”
You are correct. It is not a sin to BE a gay, only to engage in any sex acts, gay or otherwise, outside of man/woman marriage. That Church doctrine is NOT going to change, even if the Pope wanted to change it. He COULD NOT propound error on a matter of faith and morals. And there WERE Popes who WOULD have done so, IF they could have, in the Middle Ages, thus evidencing the concept of Papal Infallibility.
Of course he’s not going to judge them. He reads the Gospel.
Not sure who you're talking about here. Who is "they"? And what do you mean by "social gospel." (I know some people mean "socialism," but I'm not sure if that's what you mean.)
"... because of your worship of the Catholic religion, over the Word of God."
Untrue. I do not worship the Catholic religion, and I do worship the One True God. Perhaps you had somebody else in mind: that can happen in a thread with approaching-400 replies. Dizzying!
"This is like saying I can not condemn a glutton, who seeks God and is on a diet."
An interesting example. And, yes, that would be my position: I do not condemn a glutton who seeks God and is on a diet. That pretty much describes me. I did confess glutton the last time I went to confession, by the way. That was nine days ago. And here I am eating a Reese's cup.
"We are designed to acknowledge all of our sin, and hand them over to God... Yes, Homosexuality is a sin, therefore confess and repent because the kingdom of God is near."
Amen.
"Saying ,as long as the sinner has hate in heart but doesnt act on it- IS FINE WITH ME, says that there is no need for that transformation we read about in Romans and Galatians."
Nobody is saying that. Hatred in the heart, if a person intentionally entertains those hateful thoughts, is a sin, just like lust in the heart is a sin. It is a sin in thought. However, a temptation to hatred or lust, which one struggles against and asks the grace of God to overcome, is not a sin. It is a temptation. There is a difference.
"We are to be transformed, reborn, made new- letting the old man die, seeking to become perfect like Christ. The homosexual needs to change his heart and be transformed."
Amen.
"It is very clear. And if the Pope has not been chosen to judge what is right... WHY is he the Pope?"
He already judged that homosexuality is a sin. (Said so right in this interview.) He has judged that it is wrong. What he said was, "If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" It is the person he is not judging. Like the publican at the back of the Temple, who was evidently a person of good will searching for the Lord, who said "O God, have mercy on me, a sinner."
"Men and women are send to Judge what is right. Was that not the role of the Pope in the first place?"
Amen. But he said homosexuality is a sin.
I don't know anything about Rick Warren. I take it he's an Evangelical minister of some sort?
"With the overwhelming number of sexual degenerates infecting the media, are we surprised that they twist the Popes words, making it appear hes supporting the degenerate agenda world-wide? Satan is a liar from the start. His minions lie as easily as they breathe."
BOOKMARKING AGAIN....
Thank you!
