Pope Francis reached out to gays on Monday, saying he wouldn't judge priests for their sexual orientation in a remarkably open and wide-ranging news conference as he returned from his first foreign trip...
"If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?" Francis asked.
His predecessor, Pope Benedict XVI, signed a document in 2005 that said men with deep-rooted homosexual tendencies should not be priests. Francis was much more conciliatory, saying gay clergymen should be forgiven and their sins forgotten.
Francis' remarks came Monday during a plane journey back to the Vatican from his first foreign trip in Brazil.
He was funny and candid during a news conference that lasted almost an hour and a half. He didn't dodge a single question, even thanking the journalist who raised allegations reported by an Italian newsmagazine that one of his trusted monsignors was involved in a scandalous gay tryst.

I'm no Canon Lawyer. Cite me where Canon Law says you can hide child molesters for decades, and move them from parish to parish?
All these offense happened in defiance of Canon Law, not in accordance with it.
Things always turn out badly when people betray the Faith and Morals of the Catholic Church.
You got the verses.
NOW put them in context.
Did you miss reply #251?
I am not at all misinformed.
an I don’t disagree with anything you stated, here
You meant to say this to someone else?
I’ve had enough arguing today, I certainly don’t need to get dragged into something in which I am mischaracterized.
NOW put them in context.”
I politely and respectfully answered your question. Now you are either trying to give me a homework assignment or claiming you are a better Christian than me, I am not sure which one or both.
So, what did he say in Spanish? "Maricon"? "Joto"? "Gay"? "Sodomito"? "Puto"? "Afeminado"? "Homosexual"?
Do all the words have exact equivalents in English?
Even more ambiguous is a term like "ex-gay". Does it mean a person who abstains from sodomy? Or does it mean a person who once felt, but no longer feels, attraction to people of the same sex?
It is unjust to judge a person on a single word, especially in translation.
And extra-specially if you're interested in justice.
Is that allowed?
Show me where it says that. It’s not in the quote you alluded to.
That didn't change, and almost all of us --- Catholic and non-Catholic -- know that.
He doesn’t judge the wino, either. God does that. We can, and do, judge the behavior.
Doesn't believe homosexual conduct is a sin? Then he hasn't been listening to the Bible, the Catechism, or the Pope.
Well said!
The level of depravity, not the sin itself.
BS
That’s exactly the point. If one is CELIBATE, as a priest is supposed to be, then how does he know he’s queer? Going back hundreds of years tho, the definition of celibacy got warped into meaning “no sex with women”. Pounding kids and brothers -of-the-cloth didn’t count. And where does this papal genius get “—not for me to judge”? Ain’t he the freeekin’ pope? and isn’t he expected to make judgement calls on matters of morality. If I were a catholic I’d want my money back for this guy. As it is, it looks like we’ll be watching another continuous Obamuzzie style fundraiser where he just can’t work up the nerve to hold any sinners to the fire.
"Outside the Church there is no salvation" (BTW, this heading is from the Catechism of the Catholic church itself. Just before point 846.)
846
Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336
Let me rephrase my comments a little bit about the term gay. Like the liberal Jesse Jackson-cloned word African-American, which I refuse to use because most blacks have been in this country over 300 years. This hyphenated garbage is wrong. An American is an American. You want to call them anything call them black or negro, which is what they were called (and what their race is) for 275 years before Jesse Jackson got on the bandwagon to try and separate Americans from each other.
I also refuse to use the term gay to denote a homosexual.
Just another word the liberal media started calling homosexuals to try and convince straight people that homosexuals are perfectly normal people and are happy all the time. Nothing is further from the truth. Most of them know their CHOSEN lifestyle is wrong and most suffer depression. They have suicide rates higher than straight people and suffer from alcoholism at a much higher rate than normal folks. That is a fact. Most lesbians are big fat gals who were fat the majority of the lives and couldnt find a boyfriend so they turned to women. Most homosexual men had no strong father in the home or no father at all. Most were pampered by their mothers. No man to show them how to be a man, just a woman to show them how woman feel and do things. Thats also a fact. Homosexuality is nurture, not nature and anyone with a brain realizes this. It was classified as mental disorder for years by the American Medical Association, then the liberal homosexual lobby got their way and its now considered perfectly normal behavior to be a homosexual, which is of course wrong. So once again, I know of no gay homosexuals.
Everytime there is a Catholic thread...all the other “Christian” Catholic haters come out in droves!
Guess they just never got over “Papists”...ha.
OK, but if in fact he said, “Who am I to judge?” What is he referring to when it comes to judgment?
Acceptance into heaven? Forgiveness of this sin? Acknowledgement of acceptance in the Church?
I ask, if the Pope does not “judge”, who does?
I think that saying homosexuals who come to the Church and do not perform the acts are not to be “judged” might be considered splitting hairs.
But all my statements are predicated on if, in fact, the Pope DID say what he is reported to have said, in the manner reported.
I, too, don’t trust the MSM.
Yes, he wasn't an avowed communist and opposed the widespread movement of the Jesuit order towards marxism.
But he's still an economic leftist. I'm sorry, but it is what it is. His statements make it very clear that he tends to oppose cutting government social welfare programs, opposes "austerity" and generally takes shots at the free market and capitalism at every turn.
And now we can see he's soft on the homo issue.
It's really about time conservative Catholics admit what we have here. Pope Frances has some wonderful qualities, but he's a lefty. Sorry if that offends anyone.
