Please reference the oldest federal code defining legal marriage for federal employment purposes.

The date was 1780, the Continental Congress ""The first national pension legislation for widows was a Continental Congress resolution of August 24, 1780"".

The 1780 Act was enlarged in 1794, 1798, 1802, and so on.

Thanks for the reference. That's good information.

However, the resolution doesn't officially attempt to define marriage imo.
