The only people who would look negatively on someone else's mixed-race marriage either collects Nazi/KKK memorabilia, or wears a cheap suit and a bow tie while selling bean pies in little pink boxes on urban street corners, or is an elderly Asian parent from a generation ago.

All three profiles so rare as to be safely ignored.

My grand niece married a black man in 2010. It did not bother e a bit. However, I would have been concerned if he had come fro.m a single-mother home in a US metro center where the black culture seem to be poisonous for the children living there.

My niece’s husband grew up in a small town in central Minnesota. His father is originally from Great Britain (i.e. he is English), and his mother is from the Bahamas. So this fellow was never indoctrinated into the victim, and “whitey is bad” mentality. I have great hopes for this marriage and they now have a son who is going to be handsome, I think.

That may have been true a couple of generations ago, but not today. My kids are mixed race, and have never felt any sort of confusion because of it. It's quite common today.

I'm pretty much equal portions of European, African, and Native American myself, and have never felt "internally confused". My ancestry is just a fact, and I am just a man. End of story.

My wife's only rule for our girls was NO MUSLIMS!

She got a VHS copy of Not Without My Daughter and made them watch it repeatedly as they were growing up.

Not a fan of drunken, lazy bums either, but our approach on those was a bit more subtle.

I think you nailed the key component there. It's not so much that a difference in paint jobs matters, but a difference in cultural upbringing.

I'm sure that's why my own (mixed race) marriage works. My wife and I come from the same culture - American.

There are difficulties. I am marred, now for 20 years, to a 100% off-the-reservation mescalero Apache Indian. (I am white.)

We’ve had problems, even though we grew up together since 3rd grade -— seperated in college, when I played football for a living, and when she went to medical school, but married soon thereafter.

Yes, I would suspect it is 50% or more.

But you have to propoprtionately decrease it -— 50% of 20% (black being 20% of the population then 50% of that is female . . . so a good 1/3 of the 13% in question would be black females.

I live in what was once called The Most Racist County in America, and I have two interracial couples living across the street from me.

No crosses have been burned, no pickup trucks full of drunken rednecks have pulled donuts on their lawn.

Of course, I've seen almost no visible racial tension in my 35 years in GA. Maybe the old school crackers don't trust this Yankee interloper enough yet to speak freely.

I myself married outside my race (my wife is Chinese)

Mine is a Filipina, but there is no problem with cultural differences. I don't know about other cultures, but I have no problems.

Yep. In light of statistics, people don’t seem to think through the ramifications of this, or they’re too afraid of appearing non-PC. But considering everything else happening, it probably just doesn’t matter now anyway.

I’m in my 30s, grew up in urban CA and I don’t like interracial marriages. There,
I said it...does that mean I think people shouldn’t be allowed? No. But I will assume that 13% of those black women hate losing marriage oriented black men to white women and a white man who marries a foreigner cant handle American Women... There, I said thst too. :)

Yes. And, I’ve noticed that noticed that most people’s only, or most common, praise of the fruit of interracial marriage is “oh your children are just beautiful”. That’s it. What else? Intraracial marriages make beautiful children too. Is anything else taken into account? Achievement gap statistics, propensity or not to violence, etc? People used to not be so starry-eyed that they didn’t take into account pragmatic factors when choosing a mate and not just “love conquers all”. Not to say that love is not also a factor. But love is a choice. Lust is a reflexive reaction which is subject to the discipline of a mind capable of being educated into exercising moral conscience at all times.
