Its only a matter of time before those of us who use PKI, SSL, private email, and TOR are subjected to the same things.
Its about control. Its always about control.
Perhaps. However, their Nirvana could collapse under the weight of itself. How many emails are generated and how many web pages are accessed in a day? Possibly, billions. The Internet is not getting smaller, so exponentially even more data will be online each year.
No matter how many computers they have running their programs, the shear volume of data could be too massive to ever be meaningful.
And have of that volume is cat videos. :)

Cat videos and karma whores on Imgur.
I’ve read numerous reports that the Fedguv is funding research by Intel AND AMD to pump up timelines for quantum computing research. They NEED the atom-level processing provided by graphene research to achieve the level of both decryption AND data mining they’re trying to accomplish.
If you’re interested in a good read, do a web search for ‘NSA data analytics.’
