FULL TITLE: Lance Armstrong Says It's The Postal Service's Fault For Giving Him $41 Million When He Was On Drugs
Lance Armstrong' defense of the false claims lawsuit brought against him by former cycling teammate Floyd Landis is a breathtaking act of chutzpah: It is the government's fault that his sponsor, the U.S. Postal Service, did not know he was taking drugs when he won all those Tour de Frances, Armstrong argues.
In fact, the post office liked sponsoring Armstrong when he was doping, the cyclist argues, and "got exactly what it bargained for."
Armstrong made the argument in legal papers seeking to rebut Landis' allegations that Armstrong's doping, and his lying about taking those drugs, defrauded the USPS out of its sponsorship money. USPS paid Armstrong and his team more than $41 million in sponsorship in two contracts in 1996 and 2000, the lawsuit says.

EXACTLY!
Ya know, I was caught all sorts of flames when I tried to tell FReepers what he was really like and that folks in Austin knew what a jerk he was. Oh, well.
I was a big fan of his, but talk about twin personalities! One for public and one for private.
The performance enhancing drugs has really got me bamboozled. Should we continue the attempted bans in all sports? Or just say the hell with it, anything goes, at which time we will be having world class athletes dropping dead at the time the reach 30. Or maybe two classes, clean and drugged?
Looks like two classes: how can Roger Maris’ home runs be compared to Barry Bonds? Is it fair? Does the league care about fairness or are they worried about being racist?
Lances records as compared to other greats? How do we know the other greats weren’t doping?
All the track records are legal?
How about a pitcher raised from birth to be one and juiced since the age of 14 and throwing fastballs @ 110MPH?
Where does it stop?
This is precisely why I have completely quit watching stick and ball sports for the last 10 years.
The dog ate my homework defense
Your not mad because you once wore a yellow plastic bracelet, are you?/s
I knew Lance was a false hero all along, but the media hero worshipers promoted him to all. I’d bet no one claims to have once wore a “live strong” bracelet!
Armstrong is a total moron for revealing his secrets if he truly wants to retain the money.
He was in the cat bird seat with all the money for endorsements and no legal pressure to fess up.
Angela Corey, is that you?
This is the only defense Armstrong needs. All the other defenses are just legal points that needed to be made by the lawyers just in case the main defense is not successful.
Also, in order to prevail in a civil lawsuit, the plaintiff must be able to prove damages - an impossible task. There is also a huge statute of limitations problem for the plaintiffs.
I wonder which high-level executive(s) at the USPS were big cycling fans and took paid trips to watch the Tour de France by using the sponsorship as an excuse to get the government to pay for their hobby.
Also, how can anyone tarnish the image of the USPS beyond what it has done to itself?
It’s always about the money.
