So what are we to make of this astonishingly low attendance after non-stop coverage on cable news and elsewhere, as if this trial were the only serious issue confronting our country?
Could it be that the citizenry, including African-Americans, supposedly so greatly injured, have seen through the media hype (what I earlier called media pornography) and themselves realize this case is simply an accidental, anomalous one-off and not that big of a deal?
I certainly hope so, because what we have been going through is a form of national nervous breakdown, taking us rapidly backwards on race relations, something that has improved consistently in our country over the last fifty years.
What we do not need now is a national conversation on race. Thats like taking a scab thats slowly healing and, just when its about to whither away, scratching it as hard as possible until the wound comes back.
We have strong civil rights laws. We have an even stronger national consensus against racism. Racist behavior is a huge social taboo, as it should be.
Now we should just leave it alone let the scab heal. Morgan Freeman said this best in a famous interview with Mike Wallace on 60 Minutes back in 2006. (Unfortunately, the great actor rescinded this later. But I prefer to believe in this more sophisticated, calmer Morgan.)
Heres a transcript of the key parts of that exchange:
MIKE WALLACE, CBS`s 60 MINUTES: Black History Month, you find
MORGAN FREEMAN, ACTOR: Ridiculous.
WALLACE: Why?
FREEMAN: You`re going to relegate my history to a month?
WALLACE: Come on.
FREEMAN: What do you do with yours? Which month is White History Month? Come on, tell me.
WALLACE: I`m Jewish.
FREEMAN: OK. Which month is Jewish History Month?

Totally agree. I’d really like a measure of black impressions on how racism has changed, if any, since Obama was elected.
The public education system, controlled by flaming progressives, also is a racism engine in our country. If blacks who complain about discrimination knew more history, they would realize that progressive causes in general have been perpetuated by those who hated blacks. I wonder how many know that Obama is half white (if that is even true).
Somehow, the argument that the left uses:
“all the other months are white history month”
doesn’t seem to translate when there is a cross on one mountain and “all the other mountains” are secular.
Of course, whenever we perceive “hypocrisy” on the left,
it’s because we naively believe the premises they put forth for their arguments.
It means three strikes and you are out — and this was Sharptongue’s third strike.
I've never understood wanting to value the voiced opinion of someone who's greatest skill is deceiving others, making them believe and follow a fake situation or story.
Grand Rapids... My birthplace!
From the TV news coverage in Omaha, NE, there were less than 20. It looked like a handful of “organizers” and probably some of their relatives. There was not a word in the Sunday newspaper about the rally.
It started with "Occupy(tm) [your town here]"
Despite the gushing from Pelosi and Obama about how this was a wonderful and spontaneous uprising of wonderful youth demanding socialism, the public saw pre-planned and organized events (complete with food tents and servers), morons unable to complete a sentence that started with "I am here because...", crapping on police cars, rapes, up-twinkles, and other lunacy.
When that fizzled out they were looking for another event to capitalize on
They know they have only 3 years left, and so things are moving faster and faster
The only ones outraged over Trayvon’s death are the MSM who needed a ratings boost to divert attention from Benghazi, IRS and the rest of the O scandals. Their collective white guilt has mounted this into a monumental MSM hyped event. No one else sees it that way. Blacks, Hispanics, whites ...we all can see a man will defend himself any way he can when his life is threatened. This has been a non-starter from the get go. Remember, the DOJ had to send it’s team down to get this started to begin with. O still needs the cover for his scandals, thus the ongoing “outrage”.
You forgot that “Obama got elected because he won the majority of white votes, and he is now doing his level best to see that no white voter ever casts his vote for a black candidate again”.
Symbolic.
We also see the tragic death of a very young man who was off down the wrong path, and very likely would have died from some other incident within five years without intervention.
My assessment of how black racism has changed since Obama was elected is that it has increased exponentially.
Went to the link, not how I expected that conversation between Wallace and Freeman to go..
To the black community, this is just another punk and another day. A drug addict for a mother, raised in a broken home, shuffled around, brothers all with different fathers...no stability. Add to that the culture, which Rachel Jeantel highlighted for us...no education and no future. Yes, Trayvon was doomed from the day of his birth. I find this deplorable, but the ones who have to change it are the blacks themselves. It won’t happen with a welfare state and a criminal gang culture. Education, hard work...and they could rise above it all. It would take several generations, but that’s what it takes.
Libtards are collectivists and determinists. They will always be obsessed with race and every other group that they can think of.
Since many of these protests to condemn alleged legal injustice were held outside courthouses, the low turnout could might be partly attributable to many in the Trayvon crowd staying away due to outstanding warrants.
Social networking allows for a greater freedom of expression than mob participation. Can’t we all move along? Even the savages know that Trayvon makes a poor excuse for a faux cause.
I work and associate with a large number of black people. They are pissed about the Zimmerman verdict. Perhaps not pissed enough to waste part of their weekend protesting outside in near hundred degree weather, but pissed enough. When these black causes arise, the overwhelming majority of black people do blindly rally behind their team.
While veiwing so many ‘reports’ of the protests...discerned that numerous reports set forth that protest attendance numbered in the hundreds/thousands. Yet I never saw a whole group angle, never saw a aerial broadcast. Just a tight camera shot with 5-7-9 participants. Could our media be lying? Did our national media once again illustrate their great gift of misdirection? Of embellishment reporting?
