On Tuesday night, a flash mob of some 40 to 50 teenagers invaded the busiest and most tourist-centric part of Hollywood, smashing windows, stealing cellphones, and assaulting passersby. The police described the incident as a rolling crime wave. One police official said that the George Zimmerman acquittal provided the flash point excuse for the flash mob. Theyre using Trayvon as an excuse, the official said to local media. They were saying, Lets go mess up Hollywood for Trayvon. The incident began when 911 dispatchers began getting calls about trouble on Hollywood and Vine, including young people running through traffic, bowling people over, and grabbing their purses and cell phones. The hoodlums robbed local stores as they charged down Hollywood Blvd. One took a cash register. They kept moving from location to location, said Officer Christopher No. According to LAPD Commander Andy Smith, the group coordinated beforehand via social media, believing that police presence was distracted by the anti-George Zimmerman protests in Crenshaw. What were thinking is these youngsters took advantage of our redeployment of officers down to the Crenshaw District last night and decided that this would be a good night to come up to Hollywood and act a little crazy, said Smith. Overall, the police arrested 12 people, 11 of them juveniles. The police are currently investigating surveillance video to find the rest of the suspects. Video appears to show more than one of the mob wearing hoodies.

I noticed that there are no LAPD officers in the picture. The LAPD bugged out. The Koreans provided the security. I remember things got so bad that Governor Pete Wilson flew California Highway Patrol officers and cars to L.A. on California Air National Guard planes to enforce law on the looters.
Your awareness of that irony is acute, thank you for observing that aspect of it. I have often wondering if that ironic overlay is a message and a gift from God for those that can see it.
What happened to the paragraphs?

“Do you know who Trayvon Martin is?” and “This is for Trayvon!” are becoming the new “Allah Akbar!” If you hear it, you should run.
Believe that’s a Magnum-PI without the mag. that’s probably why you were confused.
The National Press is doing their best to keep these kinds of stories under wraps.
Think how the Washington Post or LA Times would have covered this if instead of out of control black thugs it had been out of control white Tea Party members.
Let me tell you, it would be covered in a totally different fashion.
A white group that is NOT out of control is the only thing that will eventually stop this crap.
Yeah, but the choice of color given what was exposed above the parapet leaves much to be desired - unless it was white kevlar.
It’s hard to trash what is already Hollywood trash.
I’ll spare you the details but I ended up down in the middle of it. There were LAPD cruising around at a rapid pace 4 to a car. Never saw one stop. The looters all looked like game show contestants. Big smiles running around with their loot. Some even taking time to say excuse me.
“Excuse me” to who? The cops that were pretending there was no shoplifting spree, or to each other, or the shop owners they pushed aside.
Please tell us more you saw, where ( I used to live there), and what you had to do to stay safe. Thank-you.
On a practical level, it means that those threats of riots carry a lot less weight than otherwise.
Feral beasts.
A couple of looters ran into each other. They smiled and shrugged and kept going. It was absolute chaos, people everywhere, we heard a few gunshots. This was just southwest of USC, few blocks from where Reginald Denny was nearly killed. Traffic was moving pretty well, no one stopped for very long, including the cops.
Reason we were there was a rescue mission. My (then) girlfriend's roommate was stranded at her apartment near the campus. We picked her up and bought her to our place in West Hollywood, which was as safe as it ever was.
Thank-you. I am glad you were able to save the young lady. You are a hero in my book. My husband asked his daughter, who is in that part of town frequently, and she said nothing was going on. I am appreciative you gave us further details. Stay safe.
