Exactly. The pattern here was 90% of the mob skedaddles as soon as the horses show up. To an urban dweller, police horses are scary huge- they ain’t the horses you see in the movies, they’re riot-trained war horses.
I remember reading in the Press Democrat, Santa Rosa, CA local paper, when the police chief was talking about the mounted unit and their efficacy.
“When you are in a rowdy crowd and you hit a cop, you’re a hero; you hit a horse and you’re just a jerk.”
I’ll never forget it.
A buddy of mine on the NYPD said a mounted officer was as effective as 10 foot officers.
