Famed defense lawyer and Harvard law professor Alan M. Dershowitz is calling for a federal investigation into civil rights violations stemming from the George Zimmerman case but he says the probe should focus on prosecutorial misconduct rather than on allegations of racial profiling and bias.
Speaking Sunday in an exclusive Newsmax interview, Dershowitz said the jurys finding that Zimmerman was not guilty of either second-degree murder or manslaughter was the right verdict.
He added, There was reasonable doubt all over the place.
Immediately after the verdict was announced, however, the NAACP and outspoken activist Al Sharpton called on the Justice Department to launch a federal civil-rights probe, charging that the case had been racially tainted.
Dershowitz is calling for a civil-rights probe as well. But he contends the person whose rights were violated was Zimmerman.
I think there were violations of civil rights and civil liberties by the prosecutor, said the criminal-law expert. The prosecutor sent this case to a judge, and willfully, deliberately, and in my view criminally withheld exculpatory evidence.
He added: They denied the judge the right to see pictures that showed Zimmerman with his nose broken and his head bashed in. The prosecution should be investigated for civil rights violations, and civil liberty violations.(continued)

He better be careful or he’ll find himself on the receiving end of a Holder investigation.
Bet the jurors are pretty pi$$3d today. Even though they came to the correct conclusion, they did so with less information than they should have had available.
Dershowitz is correct but the managers of the progressive plantation must be concerned he’s running off his leash. Monday morning he’ll be called into the Harvard president’s office and have the facts of life explained to him.
I would also file a civil lawsuit against those individuals including Corey for putting GZ’s. I would financially bankrupt them personally like they did to GZ...only now the spoils go to the victor.
With Not Guilty Verdict, Zimmerman Legal Team Sets Sights On NBC And The Media
Lone voice of reason in the wilderness. First public figure with cajones enough to speak truth.
In the fever swamps of my mind, I think it would be cool for Dershowitz to team up with O’Mara to:
a) Expose and break up the corrupt Florida prosecution machine, from Bondi on down to Mantei’s level
b) Put a below-the-waterline hole in the DOJ’s race grievance aid bureau; cause them to pay money damages and raise public furor until that sleaze is eliminated
c) Run Crump’s money truck into the ditch; then turn around and sue HIM as well as the city of Sanford for their role in the false persecution
d) Put ten times the money in George Zimmerman’s pockets from lawsuits, as Crump fleeced the HOA for.
Along the way, Dershowitz and O’Mara/West should help themselves to a hefty chunk-o’-dough.
I know it’s probably a pipe dream... but wouldn’t it be sweet...
They should all be fired including Scott. There are less than a handful of politicians with gonads and the biggest seem to belong to Sarah. Have you seen below, headline on breitbart? I am gonna have to take a news hiatus, turn my TV off.
That announcement came just hours after Zimmerman was acquitted for second-degree murder and manslaughter in the killing of Trayvon Martin, and within one day of the NAACP calling on the DOJ for an investigation.
Here is the Department of Justice statement in full:
As the Department first acknowledged last year, we have an open investigation into the death of Trayvon Martin. The Department of Justices Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division, the United States Attorneys Office for the Middle District of Florida, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continue to evaluate the evidence generated during the federal investigation, as well as the evidence and testimony from the state trial. Experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation of any of the limited federal criminal civil rights statutes within our jurisdiction, and whether federal prosecution is appropriate in accordance with the Departments policy governing successive federal prosecution following a state trial.
Z should file suit against the estate of T for compelling Z to kill.
I’m going to do all I can to see that Scott and Bondi get fired. I will not vote for either again. I voted for both before.
If Corey gets into a pissing contest with him, she will come out second best.
Gonna take a stab here, but if they really didn't know anything about the case before, they probably aren't going to seek anything out about it now. Not like it has been the subject of dinner conversations around the house.
I feel an IRS audit coming soon.
It’s crazy, but I find myself liking Dershowitz more and more.
There are few things I would agree with Dershowitz about when it comes to politics. However, I do believe he would make a great SCOTUS Judge because he understands the law far more clearly than 99% of his peers.
He has provided the most accurate legal analysis of this case from the start.
Of course. BRAVO!
Dershowitz and Corey have had run-ins before. She contacted Harvard Law School demanding that he be disciplined for voicing his opinion that she had improperly omitted information that could have exonerated Zimmerman.Sorry, but Dershowitz is the heavy-hitter, here.Of course, the Harvard Law School laughed at [her complaint], he said.
Dershowitz is that rarest of creatures, a principled modern liberal.
The State Prosecutors BDLR and Guy both, in Court told the Jurors the event was not about race.
Ms.Sybrina and Crump, also said the same thing.
Would that be considered Perjury if they now testified it was now a race issue?
