I pray for a fair and just verdict. My support and thoughts go out to the Zimmerman family and the defense team as we wait.

Just upset that this only can mean, in all likelihood, that the jury wants to convict Z on something....fear of riots or not.

The State didn’t add it. In Florida, manslaughter is an automatic lesser-included charge to second-degree murder unless the State asks that it be excluded from the jury instructions. The Defense asked to have the manslaughter instructions stricken but the prosecution argued for it to be included.

Right off the back, how long would you think the sentence for man slaughter is if you had not read it anywhere or were not told it?

I would probably assume 10 years.

It seems the judge might be researching whether to give the jurors additional instructions. They already have info with them.

Judge was definitely smiling. Not good.
****************************************************
I heard one of the local (good) Florida attorney talking heads a few minutes ago that there may have been a problem with what was in the final jury instructions document. I half heard it so don’t have details.

Anyone else hear this?
*************************************************************
And, if this is true, it of course means that the Judge has, yet again, F’d up.

Tricky stuff. The instructions are trial-tested. It’s not uncommon to just say, “No”. Going beyond them can put them on new turf. Looks like she’s going off to look at cases and draft something.

The judge doesn’t get to vote. Impossible to know which way it will go so sit back, relax and see what happens.

Any lawyers here have thoughts about grounds for appeal?

I’m hoping that their question was does self defense apply to manslaughter too.

If the law allows a legal act (tracking a thug) to become culpable negligence to prove manslaughter, then the law needs to be changed.

Smiling for eventual(hopefully) appeal of any conviction, is my guess. He knows that Z is innocent.

That would be the hardest part of this case. When did GZ feel his life was threatened and was there any other recourse he had to defend his life!
HEll on a NYC subway that could be @ eye contact!
Hopefully this will go the way of Bernhard Goetz, Protecting his Life!
