Back in May, a month after Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed the state’s gun control law, Stag Arms of New Britain came up with a modified design and took it to the state police firearms unit to see whether it would pass muster.
The unit was helpful, even making a design suggestion that would help assure the gun would not be classified as an illegal assault weapon. Stag prepared to make the rifle, a .22-caliber version of the military-style AR-15.
Then in June, the state legislature tightened the law in order to correct a few problems. Stag returned with an updated model, seeking an opinion.
But this time, the firearms unit had a different answer.
“I was told to get a lawyer, figure it out and if I’m wrong I’m going to have to deal with it,” said Mark Malkowski, the Stag Arms owner and president. “It’s my responsibility to interpret…I was told we were no longer allowed to bring prototypes in.”

PTR Inc. that makes HK rifle clones has decided to move out of CT. Stag Arms is still waffling. Actually, Stag is looking for facilities outside of NY....hopefully they’ll choose Horry County, SC.
I don't disagree with the above.
But this doesn't involve "understanding the law", it is about INTERPRETING the law, which task is for the states Attorneys General, and the states judges to do.
If either cop or citizen needs clarification, the state Attorney General's office is where they both should go to get the current understanding of any state law, which it is then the cops job to enforce.
If a citizen disagrees with what the AG's office says the law means, then they take it up in court. If the courts agree with the AG's office, then the citizen can go to the legislature to get the law modified or repealed.

I really believe we will see political change over all the gun control and many of these laws will be reversed down the road. It would be nice to see Stag pick up and leave, but not if it has a negative affect on their bottom line. I own a few Stags, great guns, reasonably priced, all around good company too. Somebody from Stag told me they were working on a 308 Stag, would be a light weight AR-10 but if they are forced to move; that development & production would be put on the back burner. I say, stay where you are best to survive; and bring out that 308 Stag,,, quick I want a couple.

And we don't deserve one dime, one penny of taxes derived from a business we not only hamper, but malign and disrespect and falsely accuse at every opportunity in public.
If you stay in a fascist state and manufacture a freedom-oriented product they don't like, and you pay your taxes, you ARE the problem. You're funding them to violate your civil rights and those of your customers.
It deserves to be repeated.
