Bay Area television station KTVU incorrectly reported the names of the pilots flying the ill-fated Asiana Airlines Flight 214 using racially insensitive monikers.
The segment on Friday at noon that referred to two of the pilots as "Captain Sum Ting Wong," and "Wi Tu Lo," has gone viral and drawn heavy criticism on the Internet.

The fake names were in the Chinese style, not Korean.
—
Yeah, I know but the people involved were Korean.
Good for you! I promise if it was Native American, which I am a descendant, and they had made the same jokes, I would still be lmao.
Oh, the last time! Yep, I only see video freeze frames of Mike!
LMBO!!
Tu Fun E!
The story here is, this station’s lack of checking facts has been exposed.
Yes, it’s funny. But this only proves what we all know.
Me too! I just finished one of the longest lasting laughing streaks in years. My dog was freaking out thinking I was crying from grief. I sent it to my Bay Area brother.
There was another Stern prankster recently who had an on-air interview with some national anchor during that LA rogue cop manhunt a few months back. He finally claimed “Ronnie the Limo Driver” had spotted the cop. I haven’t heard Stern for at least 15 years, but I took it “Ronnie the Limo Driver” was another Stern character.
I also believe that is where the humor is. The names were semi-humorous but the fact that those at the station were too dim to get it EVEN AS SHE READ IT! I find hilarious. :-)
The Chinese jet pilot that hit the US spy plane a few years back was named Wong Wei, pronounced Wong Way.
Gone are the days when people could laugh at John Byner’s sketch, the bigot family. It was hilarious, and everybody got skewered.
My husband is of Irish heritage, so I know several good Irish jokes. ;-)
When I was in the journalism business, the reporters carried notebooks and asked people to spell their names.
Printing machines spit out news releases on paper, wire service copy was hung on hooks. When foreign names were in the stories we got syllabic pronounciation for the names.
We had something to refer to when we wrote news stories to be read on television.
Pilot: Sum Ting Wong
Co Pilot: Won Dum Fuk

Am I being a wet blanket?
Yes. The names are funny ha-ha. But a news show that has claimed to verify the truthfulness of its reporting....to be caught up in such nonsense? Is not funny ha-ha.
They are exposed as presenting Internet humor as FACT. Am I the only one that finds that absolutely NOT humorous?
Dude, get with the program, - racist = bad, how hard is that?!
I’m thinking a journalist is a different animal from a reporter.
Thanks for letting us know. I had read somewhere that he was incorrectly named Wing Hung Lo.
Only one? I'm not sure. But you are definitely in a small minority.
And I suppose whether or not you find this funny depends on how you look at it. I see it as funny because the clueless leftist media morons were made to look like the clueless leftist media morons that they are. I have no pity for them. They intentionally misrepresent the news all the time. Instead of fooling the viewing public, this time they were fooled.
