Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Thursday afternoon set up several votes to end debate on a slew of executive branch nominees, including several staunchly opposed by Republicans.
The procedural maneuvers sets up a showdown with Republicans next week over the Senates filibuster rule. Reid and other Democratic leaders urged colleagues in a private meeting earlier in the day to support changing the rule if Republicans blocked the nominees.
Reid set up votes to end debate and to proceed to a final votes on several nominees, including Richard Cordray, President Obamas pick to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and his picks to the National Labor Relations Board.
Republicans say the nominees to the labor board, Sharon Block, Richard Griffin Jr., and Mark Gaston Pearce, should be rejected because Obama violated the Constitution when he attempted to seat them during a Senate recess. Republicans have pointed to a D.C. Circuit Court ruling that the appointments were invalid.
He also set up votes to end debate on Gina McCarthys nomination to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Tom Perezs nomination to head the Labor Department and Fred Hochbergs nomination to serve as president of the Export-Import Bank.
The ultimatum to confirm the nominees or lose their power to filibuster outraged Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), who called it a sad day in the Senate.
McConnell warned that Reid would go down in history as "the worst leader of the Senate ever if he went ahead with the nuclear option.
"Now our request for a joint meeting of all the senators has been set for Monday night, a time when attendance around here is frequently quite spotty in an obvious effort to keep as many of his members from hearing the concerns and arguments of the other side as possible," McConnell said.
Looks as if the courts will be the last resort.
It is going to be funny when the GOP requires that every bill be read, en toto, on the floor of the Senate prior to a vote.
If Dingy Harry goes through with this I sure the GOP does it and they just may this time.
We don’t need 7 more homos.
Dirty Harry and his puppet master are setting up an end-game play. It's the prelude to absolute dictatorship, directed from the White House and enforced by a Brownshirt bureaucracy and Star Chamber courts.
Bingo! If they ditch the filibuster and pack the bureaucracy and judiciary with enough Obamaphiles, it won’t matter how we vote in any future election.
The filibuster is not going to do us any good if it’s not used because we’re afraid harry will take it away. Make him take it away and remember to return the favor if we ever have control again.
I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with the seven nominees. All are good commies. Constitution loathing, one world big government pushing, abortionist/homosexualist, open borders, statist gun grabbers.
One outrage closer to letting the bullets fly...
I wrote Reid’s only biography which details his career of taking bribes. No one with any power has ever contacted me.

What’s your point?
:-)
Yep, and Perez scores highest in all those categories.
It’s why last night’s Mark Levin show totally stunned me. A mainstream credible voice has given-up on elections.
He is pushing a Constitutional Convention. He has not said yet whether that is before or after the lead start flying.
The commie Rats only believe in equality when they’re in the minority.
Regrettably, the courts appear to be just as corrupt as the Congress and Presidency.
These are the people Marco Rubio and John McIgnorant want us to TRUST regarding border security.
Just sayin’.
And I still like Rubio...but he is woefully, woefully misled and blind to the facts if he thinks Democrats are trustworthy. On anything.
I have less tolerance (zero) for McIgnorant. He has been around D.C. long enough...he ought to KNOW better.
Wake up America.
