Six Reasons Why Men Are Opting Out Of Marriage
Real Clear Politics ^ | July 9, 2013 | Dr. Helen Smith

Posted on 07/09/2013 10:25:31 AM PDT by NotYourAverageDhimmi

Dr. Helen Smith: American society has become anti-male. Men are sensing the backlash and are consciously and unconsciously going "on strike." They are dropping out of college, leaving the workforce and avoiding marriage and fatherhood at alarming rates. The trend is so pronounced that a number of books have been written about this "man-child" phenomenon, concluding that men have taken a vacation from responsibility simply because they can. But why should men participate in a system that seems to be increasingly stacked against them?

As Men on Strike demonstrates, men aren't dropping out because they are stuck in arrested development. They are instead acting rationally in response to the lack of incentives society offers them to be responsible fathers, husbands and providers. In addition, men are going on strike, either consciously or unconsciously, because they do not want to be injured by the myriad of laws, attitudes and hostility against them for the crime of happening to be male in the twenty-first century. Men are starting to fight back against the backlash. Men on Strike explains their battle cry.

Life is not without risk.

To not get married because of something might go wrong is, well just wrong.

I will be curious one what someones life will be like 50 years from now when they are getting older and have no family around.

It is a choice some will make, but I don’t think they have thought it out all the way through.

(Married 43 years last anniversary, looking forward to the big50)

I grew up in England, lived in USA since ‘87. One big difference is how young girls are treated (or at least used to be). In the USA little girls are not only allowed to be a “little princess”, they’re encouraged to be so. They grow up thinking the world should revolve around them, they’re selfish. The way young girls think they can talk to an adult is frightening, they think they’re *more* than your equal.

Then, when grown up, it is “her” wedding. If a woman wants to break an engagement many don’t think they should return the ring. It’s all about them. They’ve been sexualized while taught nothing about what men really want (outside of sex), which is mainly respect. These women do not respect men and it shows. They’ve been brainwashed into believing they’re superior to men, the man should serve them, etc.., while not showing any respect. For me, I’ll do anything for my wife, all I ask for is a bit of respect for it.

In other cultures this doesn’t appear to be the case. I don’t really see it anywhere else (to this degree at least). I love this country, especially the conservative roots it still has, but I have many male friends that have been victim to the selfish decisions made by their wives, it is *most* of them. Now they want nothing to do with marriage.

That said, there are exceptions, just very hard to find....

Much of what you say applies to my girlfriend, who is Filipina. Although well-educated, and mildly liberal in many ways, she laughs at political correctness and despises post-modernism. She has a great sense of humor, and can be slightly bawdy at times.

Let’s see. I’ve done 1 and 1. :( Too much truth there.

That’s true. I’ve known men and women that didn’t know what they had till it was gone.

I am happily married 20 years now.

We have lovely children.

But for strict social concerns (Orthodox Jew where I control the “get” — it’s a religious thing) I would not be married in America.

The balance of power is too lopsided, socially and financially otherwise.

Yup. Love her music but from what I have been told, she isn’t June Cleaver to be around.

Could this be why I have always admired Hispanic women? Could it be the sexy brown skin? Maybe both!

"Yeah, plus Filipinas tend to be hot."

She is. I am 62, she is 58, and I think I am the envy of every man at the local bar. She has a few extra pounds, but is so attractive and charming that all the men lust for her. Now, I look at some of the women I used to find attractive and wonder what I was thinking.

I had a “relationship” with a girl I used to work with that claimed to be Filipina and she too prefered (White) American men over Filipino men. She was very sweet and let me tell you, when it came to the “relationship” part...WOW!!!!!!! I will remember her till the day I die.

And now for the REAL reasons why so many men today don’t want to be married:

(1) No real-life woman can match up to what men see on internet porn. ;-)

(2) Why remain faithful to one woman when so many others are willing to jump into the sack with just about anybody?

With that said, KUDOS to anyone who is honest enough to acknowledge that he or she does not want to be faithful and so avoids marriage. It’s a shame that so many other people are not as honest and marry, only to cheat on the side. My sympathies to all here who were mistreated and/or cheated on. It happened to me, too, but life goes on.

Good question. I keep saying that if I ever find myself single again that I will NEVER remarry. As long as I have my kids and a good friend or two that is enough for me. The free to do what I want life sounds very appealing sometimes.

Exactly. People are criticizing George Clooney for breaking-up with Stacey Keibler and leading the bachelor life into his fifties, but Clooney is open and honest with the ladies that he'll never get married again and they all know this going into their relationship with him. So what's the problem?

With that said, this thread now needs a Stacy Keibler picture...
