Language problem with foreign pilots. Also, a cultural difference in that some cultures have a hard time “losing face” and “going around” from an approach where the pilot is expecting to make a landing, might be considered losing face.
That’s an interesting socialogical aspect. I’d already considered the “copilot might not want to correct a pilot due to age/seniority” aspect, but then you bring up a great point. There’s also the “pilot doesn’t want to lose face and go around” aspect.
