Twitter ^ | July 6, 2013

Currently just Tweets and locals talking about this, nothing on news sites yet. Lots of stuff in the Twitter feed, including links to uploaded videos of the smoking mess.

one of the passengers said that two stewardesses were ejected along with the tail. I guess their jump seats were on the bulkhead. That would likely be the two dead and being in the water would make sense given the point of impact.

>>Why couldn’t the news channels simply find a 777 pilot to keep them in reality instead of being all over the map with their uniformed commentary?

Because Journalism majors are the only college students possibly less mentally qualified than Education majors?

>>everyone knows that the idiots making the announcement haven’t a f***ing clue if they are telling the truth.

Similar to the statement early on that everyone was off the aircraft. I commented then that it seemed awfully early for that to be known. After all, it was a chaotic situation involving almost 300 people.

Lo and behold, we’re now hearing around 60 unaccounted for!?

>>Eyewitness says plane was in an unstable state on approach.

There’s a post here that says they were at less than 100 kts. You’re darned right the aircraft would be lethargic and unstable, they were out of altitude and airspeed.

As I said, you are unhinged. Nothing I said is a lie. I do have inside information, having worked for decades with first responders here in SF. Your vitriol is unbecoming of a freeper and is simply sad.

Can't say until we see confirmation. A buddy of mine who was there told me he saw a body on the ground near the tail section, not in the water. That would account for one of the two reported dead. He was there walking in the debris field, and said it wasn't pleasant.

BTW, I’ve got your back, I totally agree with you. Firemen and combat arms, especially infantry, have no business allowing in women. There is on average a strength deficit that all the feelgood blissninny “oh, men and women are equal” in the world will never make up, if you look at the big picture, and I don’t care about one-off exceptions. They’re all areas where the big numbers are what matter.

I used to be in the consulting engineering business and designed large building fire protection systems (laid out major piping and standpipes, sized fire pumps, that sort of thing), and sat through some NFPA training classes. Always liked seeing big, buff 6’2”, 220# firemen sitting in some of those same classes, getting trained so they could be qualified to move up to command ranks. I want someone who could fireman-carry my 180# out of a bad situation if need be, and it isn’t the average woman taking a fireMAN’s slot due to the need to be Politically Correct (spit).

No, I'm not playing.
Most pilots have a company radio that is a data link to a computer in the cockpit via satellite, they get company information to, and landing airport and alternate airport weather and NOTAMS data is passed along, as well as any other request the company or the pilots might have.
I.E. such as estimated fuel needs at the destination for the next leg of the flight, or changes in ETA, or divert airport changes.

Also, check out

I was in the tower at Osan AB ROK and saw a similar situation with a stretch DC-8.
He landed about 3,000 feet from landing threshold on a 9,000 ft runway.
He hit the brakes too hard, blew the right main tires and the wheel assembly rolled under the strut and left the aluminum /magnesium, strut scrubbing the runway.
It flamed up over the side and top of the fuselage until he came to a stop as he hung and drug out the departure end BAK-12 cable..
Everyone got out okay, but they had to jack the plane up and tow it off the runway.
I had several young inexperienced controllers I had to give a talking to, after it was over, about controlling their own voice tone and excitement level, so the pilots don't also panic.

Thank you a million, FreedomPoster (and kstewskis!). I was giving up all hope of much sanity here. I agree with everything you said about combat and firemen.

It’s truly sad how feminized/metrosexualized/brainwashed/namby-pamby people have become. People are willing to accept substandard things and conditions all so that they can feel better about themselves and whatever guilt they carry. TV and most of the entertainment industry is constantly drilling the “equality” Bolshevism.

I’m GenX, but remember when men were men, and femicommies didn’t have to insert themselves into every male-dominated field/game/club/you-name-it.

These days, not only is everything weaker because of the relaxed physical conditions for the affirmative action hires, a lot of times — it’s hard to tell who is male or female anymore. I’m height-weight proportionate but quite tall — I need a real man (6’2” sounds good, *ahem*) to carry me out of a burning building, not some wussie wanna-be-man/one-off situation where they give up anyway. I didn’t see any women going into the burning towers either - on any footage or interviews. So, at least those who did get rescued knew they wouldn’t be dropped midway.

I assume you mean, foreign pilots instead of communicate with controllers.
Most "over the ocean" controllers are U.S. Citizens, but I'd agree about SOME of the foreign pilots, maybe 30 percent.

Now in the pilot's situation, I have NO COMPREHENSION of what it's like to try to focus your concentration after a 13 hour flight, or in their case with tailwinds helping you, maybe an 11 hour flight.

You also need people who can handle "HIGH-STRESS, EVERY SPLIT SECOND DECISION COUNTS" people.
And most women just can't go there.

Good Lord. Could we please discuss the plane crash on the plane crash thread? Maybe start a separate thread for discussing whatever nonsense you guys are arguing about? Thread hijacking is prohibited by FR rules.

EGGSactly Batman! These so-called officials and media types blather on like they actually know what is going on 5 minutes after the incident and ultimately we find most of them know two things. "JACK" and "SHIT"...

The guy sitting in the tower in Buenos Aires or Sao Paulo will speak Spanish or “Portagee”, Pilots rarely converse with pilots of other flights. “Over the ocean” controllers? Yes, Oakland Oceanic Control covers a vast part of the Pacific but when you approach Japan you are talking to Fukuoka Control and he is a Japanese with limited English skills. Have you been there? I have. Also, I have flown 25 hour flights with 2 air to air refuelings..I know what tired is. Of course I was in my 20’s then.

Interesting, I could see the challenge with new controllers.

The diverging data points of the two flights I reference seems to be here:

Today:

37.5730 -122.2660 299° West 187 215 2,200 -1,080 Descending

AF84 4 days ago:

37.5790 -122.2790 300° West 187 215 1,600 -1,200

Same place, same speed. But 600’ more altitude today.

A few more data points down AA is basically at same position AF landing from 4 days ago. But AA’s speed keeps dropping well below the 145 kts that AF maintains and AA is continues to drop with a higher rate of decent.

AA Today:

37.6016 -122.3340 297° West 141 162 600 -1,320 Descending

AF:

37.6020 -122.3360 296° West 145 167 600 -840 Descending

In layman’s terms was this simply a sharp over-correction that could not be adjusted again once he reached the correct profile? i.e. he put it in a stall to fix the 600’ extra altitude but could not stop it once the correction was done?

Do you think it might have been a "Wing-Slide" or "Wing-Slip" to drop a lot of altitude fast?
You know, where the pilot drops one wing, then crabs into it until close to the altitude he wants, then kicks the rudder to come out of it?

I’ve been over Japan several times, but not as a pilot or not in the cockpit; only as a passenger.
