WASHINGTON Her image has been plastered on banners in Tahrir Square, crossed out with a blood-red X or distorted and smeared with insults. She is too cozy with Egypts deposed president and the Muslim Brotherhood, the signs say, and should leave the country.
Anne W. Patterson, a press-shy career diplomat who has been American ambassador to Cairo since 2011, suddenly finds herself a target in a dangerous political upheaval, a symbol for angry young Egyptians of Americas meddlesome role in their countrys affairs.
With the Egyptian military ousting President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday, Ms. Patterson will have to navigate a perilous course between Mr. Morsis opponents and his enraged Islamist supporters, both of whom have grievances with the United States.

Let us not forget the circumstances which led to the now ousted, unpopular rule of the Muslim Brotherhood at the helm of Egypt's government. It seems the Egyptian people harbor more than a little resentment towards its largest benefactor, the US, specifically Obama, in the clumsy, inept manner in which he facilitated the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power.
It is indicative of Obama's ineptitude, his sinister leanings towards radical Islam's Muslim Brotherhood at home and abroad that in the aftermath of the military's move against Morsi, leaves behind considerable mistrust and resentment of the Egyptian people against the US, Obama in particular, having fomented the circumstances that led The MB to power.
The irony of Obama's obsequious, boot-licking, lamentations of world alienation by the US in the past, his barf-inducing world apology tour, juxtaposed alongside the world backlash against the US he's engendered, makes schandenfreude against the nefarious Obama Administration, a perfect way for America to celebrate its Independence Day holiday.
Can’t help but suspect the Times is holding back some of the background on this particular “career diplomat.” Wonder what her real story is.
More like 5 years ago - before the Fairy Prince showed up at the White House.
Don’t worry, Anne, 0bambi has your back. Help is only a few months away.
Another Benghazi perhaps? Isn't Egypt further from Italy than Libya?
Maybe, if reggie gives him a breather, barak could call jimmie carter and get some advice.
TO BE SENT BY OBAMA IS TO BE OF SATAN AND THE EGYPTIAN PEOPLE KNOW THIS.
LLS
How did the administration facilitate the Muslim Brotherhoods rise to power? I keep hearing this and I would love to see some evidence. I have have seen NONE thus far. I am not talking about “feelings” or “suspicions” that Obama is a Muslim. I mean proof that it was the U.S. that got them elected. I have not seen one single shred of evidence.
It would be helpful.
Seems like the only people in the world who can’t punk the Kenyan idiot are the limp wristed Republicans in congress.
Unbelievable.
I think Obama had better bring his friend home before the same thing happens to her as did the other Ambassador kill her and throw her in a ditch.. I think they are smart not to trust her..and also I wonder if they know Obama has several of those filthy bastard Muslim brotherhood in the white house..
I have worked with Anne and have great respect for her integrity and professionalism. I fear for her personal safety. There needs to be a new Ambassador as soon as possible in recognition of the new government and new direction we will be taking with it.
Patterson entered the Foreign Service in 1973.
She served as a US State Department Economic Officer and Counselor to Saudi Arabia from 1984 to 1988 and then as a Political Counselor at the United States Mission to the United Nations in Geneva from 1988 to 1991.
Patterson served as State Department Director for the Andean Countries from 1991 to 1993. She served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Inter-American Affairs from 1993 to 1996.
Patterson served as United States Ambassador to El Salvador from 1997 to 2000, and then as United States Ambassador to Colombia from 2000 to 2003. While ambassador to Colombia, Patterson and U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone were the alleged targets of a failed bomb plot while on an official visit to the Colombian town of Barrancabermeja. From 2003 to 2004 Patterson served as Deputy Inspector General of the US State Department.
In August 2004, Patterson was appointed Deputy U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations. Patterson became acting Permanent Representative to the United Nations after John Danforth resigned, effective January 20, 2005. An extended delay in the confirmation of John R. Bolton by the Senate (ending when Bolton assumed the position on August 1, 2005, after a recess appointment) caused Patterson to served as interim permanent representative longer than expected.
Patterson became Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs on November 28, 2005, serving until May 2007. President George W. Bush appointed Patterson as the United States Ambassador to Pakistan after Ryan Crocker left that post to become Ambassador to Iraq. She served in Pakistan between July 2007 and October 2010.
What’s a few million in US aid to MB or hiring them as advisors at the White Hut evidence enough?
Wow, really? Some people like to celebrate Anne and Obama? The inep US government and its obvious antiIsrael pro nazifying arabism.? Tuut tuut. Give us a fracking break.
For the eight years of the Bush Presidency, Madeline Albright touted one poll after another showing who much the world hated us. Where is she now?
thank you
Nah, he is too busy bring in Morsi’s MB refugees, along with a few Syrian AlQaeda refugee in NYC, so he can prove they won’t attack Jews there.
Frank G. Wisner, a former United States ambassador to Egypt, was appointed a special envoy to Egypt during the protests. On 5 February, he said that it is important for Mubarak stay in power for now in order to ease a transition to democracy. He said the constitution of Egypt calls for an election to be held within two months of Mubarak's resignation, and implied that this would not be sufficient time for pro-democracy forces to make themselves known to the Egyptian people
