The Egyptian army has set a deadline of 4 p.m. Cairo time for the Muslim Brotherhood government of President Morsi to compromise with the people of Egypt (by stepping down.) Morsi refuses. 18 people were killed and 200 were wounded in clashes at Cairo University last night.

A Washington Post report from Cairo on dueling statements from Morsi and the army:

Waving his hands and shaking his fists in a 45-minute speech on national television late Tuesday, Morsi swore that he was committed to the democratic process that brought him to power and said that any attempts to subvert the constitution were “unacceptable.”

The army, in turn, posted a message to its Facebook page saying: “We swear to God that we will sacrifice even our blood for Egypt and its people, to defend them against any terrorist, radical or fool.”

In his speech, Morsi acknowledged that he had made mistakes during his year in office as Egypt’s first democratically elected president. But he appealed to Egyptians to give him more time to deal with the country’s problems.

Morsy out of 'the decision-making circle Cairo (CNN) -- Egyptian President Mohamed Morsy "is no longer a part of the decision-making circle," the state-run Al-Ahram newspaper said Wednesday, citing "a senior official source." "The president is no longer able to make any political decisions now and a decision has been taken to prevent leaders loyal to the current regime from traveling overseas until the General Command of the Armed Forces are finished formulating their expected statement," it added. The announcement came less than two hours after the nation's first democratically elected president offered to form an interim coalition government and as one of his aides and a Muslim Brotherhood spokesman said it appeared that a military coup was under way. http://www.cnn.com/2013/07/03/world/meast/egypt-protests/index.html

BBC:
“... The Syrian government, which is seeking to crush a more than two-year revolt against its own rule, has urged President Morsi to step down in line with his people’s wishes. Last month, Mr Morsi announced Cairo was cutting off diplomatic ties with Damascus.”

Wish I could spell ‘schadenfude”...

CNN should send Nick Robertson over there again to find out how the people feel about Obama.

CNN had a split screen with an ugly islamist female type trying to say both sides were equally represented at competing rallies. There could not have been five hundred men praying to the stage and speaker on the right hand side of the split. CNN is all in for Obamster and his moslem brotherhood.

Looks like the army has taken full control.

Ultimately, they had to. The Egyptian economy sucked. The economy needs to be decent in order to generate tax revenue.

Visualize a whole bunch of armed soldiers finding out they're not getting paid.

Morsi has taken a number of actions over the past year to lessen the power of the military. He has tried to assert his power and control over the military, including demeaning them in public. There has always been a tension between the military and the MB, which was an outlawed party under Mubarak.
