But the first responding officer was able to get to the gun. Was his DNA found anywhere on the gun? Was it tested for?

As evidenced by the 9mm hole in his chest....

This whole DNA bit is waving a big dead chicken: That gun had more hands on it than a Swiss clock factory by the time it got to evidence lockup. With the "wet grass" and rain the gun wouldn't have had St. Skittles' DNA on it if it dropped into the pool of blood.
