Bush on Snowden: ‘He damaged the security of the country’
Yahoo News ^ | Dylan Stableford

Posted on 07/01/2013 8:30:29 AM PDT by USS Johnston

Former President George W. Bush has weighed in on the Edward Snowden saga, telling CNN the former National Security Agency contractor threatened the security of U.S. citizens by leaking information about the surveillance program his administration created after the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

"I know he damaged the country," Bush said in an interview from Zambia, where he and his wife, Laura, are on a humanitarian mission. "The Obama administration will deal with it. I think he damaged the security of the country."

Like President Barack Obama, Bush deflected criticism of the spy program.

"I put the program in place to protect the country, and one of the certainties is civil liberties were guaranteed," Bush said in the interview...

Bush also refused to criticize his successor. "It doesn't do any good," he said. "It's a hard job. He has plenty on his agenda and it's difficult. [A] former president doesn't need to make it harder."

The White House said Obama will meet Bush on Tuesday in Tanzania...

He added: "You know, ultimately history will judge the decisions that I made. And I won't be around because it's going to take a while for the objective historians to show up. So I'm pretty comfortable with it. I did what I did."

Not arguing with someone who celebrates tyranny.

Doubling down on the personal comments does not retroactively lend your arguments coherence or logical force.

You’re right. Personal attacks are not appropriate.

The GOP-E must oppose the data collection period.....

Sharks gotta swim...

They are too busy shouting “security” and “traitor” to hear what many of us are saying out here??????

They hear it, they don't care. They WANT the Government to be able to spy on us. Just like Obummer.

You got trolled hard - LOL.

Go back and review the bootlicker's remarks - classic, easily identifiable techniques anyone can mimic.

I sometimes wonder why they even bother - must be boredom. It's so elementary & juvenile, I'd be surprised if he's actually on anyone's payroll.

I’ve said it before many times before anyone ever heard os Snowden...no one in DC is allowed to reach any position of power unless they have been thoroughly compromised and blackmailed.

I’ve said the same for a long time. They can make false protests and noises but they don’t dare cross the line.

George W. - good man, but he’s been added to my list of Repub. politicians that can’t be trusted. He could have said nothing on this issue like he normally does, but no, he chooses to defend Obama and his administration.

And he didn’t even defend himself when he was President. They tore him up and he just smiled and took it.

Yeah, just don't use the internet.

Or maybe use strong encryption. Which is free.

Why do Americans have to specify that they DON'T want third party's using their information instead of having to specify that they DO?

Again, when you give it away, it is no longer exclusively your information.

The idea that companies are allowed to put something on your property without your permission is insane.

What are they putting on "your property"?

There is a lot of conceptual confusion lately as to what constitutes personal property.

If I go to an In'n'Out and order a double double animal style every Friday, the cashier has not entered into some oath of eternal secrecy.

If the police come in and say: "We're looking for a guy who comes in here every Friday and orders a double double animal style, here's a picture do you recognize him?" - well the police are fully entitled to ask that question if they want, and the cashier has every right to identify me from the photo if he wants.

My favorite lunch order is definitely personal information about me, but it isn't my property, per se.

Nor is it the obligation of In'n'Out to keep that lunch order secret.

Hello semantic.

No luck coming up with any arguments either, I see.

If a foreign entity such as the Saudis/Arab Emirates, Russia, China, Iran or the U.N. controls 0bama and his agenda, isn’t it in the best interest of 0bama to destroy our national security and intelligence gathering capabilities? I’m thinking Snowden is an 0bama ‘false flag’ to redistribute our intelligence capabilities and sabotage our superpower status. 0bama could get Snowden back if he REALLY wanted to. Perhaps 0bama will give our missile defense technology to Russia in exchange for Snowden.. “Flexibility!”

It’s not hard to to see it being played out. Look at any scandal that hits the press involving one of these political parasites and then take a look at who they pissed off recently. Vote the wrong way on some appropriation or not to reauthorize some agency’s budget or for the power grab dujour, all of a sudden someone has an some teenage intern problem or gets into some trouble in an airport mens room.

It’s very simple:

The New World Order cannot be implemented as long as the United States is a strong, sovereign and viable nation.

It’s time to get into survival mode and get close to God.

Snowden is irrelevant. He might be a traitor, but who cares? More important is that the price will be high for the US and its citizens this time. I suppose no further cooperation with good old Europe on issues like security, free-trade-zone and support in Afghanistan or elsewhere. Angela Merkel has an election to win and the German people will be pi$$ed off. This is a gift for the leftist SPD. Remember Iraq and Gerhard Schroeder??! A few hundred Americans had to bleed the German share of blood in this war and the US suffered a major and enduring loss of influence and importance in Europe. Now it could even be that your military will loose its bases in central Europe in the long term. They simply will kick you out if you do not behave.

You guys shot into your own knees.

Let’s see...how long until the Bush Bashing starts?

Oh, the thread starts off with it.

Conservatives—”who needs enemies when we bash each other and tear each other up just fine all by ourselves?”
We still haven’t learned that lesson...unfortuantely the Dems have.

” Ironically it’s been George W. Bush’s unconstitutional Patriot Act and DHS abuse that have emboldened 0blabla to ratchet up his abuse of our privacy and liberties. And for THIS Bush steps out and defends 0blabla — as he’s about to meet with him in Africa? Coincidence? Bottom line: They BOTH “damaged the country” with their pro-globalist policies.”
