The successful landing of China's latest manned space mission this week cast a spotlight on the country's growing human spaceflight skills as it hones the capabilities needed to build a huge, permanently crewed space station.
During the 15-day Shenzhou 10 spaceflight, three Chinese astronauts accomplished both automatic and manual dockings to China's Tiangong 1 space laboratory, where they lived and worked during the mission. The crew also achieved a two-hour-long fly-around of the module, a first in space for China seen an effort to sharpen rendezvous expertise useful for future space station construction.
Aboard the Tiangong 1, the Shenzhou 10 crew tested space medicine and conducted various technology experiments. The astronauts held China's first public space lesson, a televised view of life inside Tiangong 1, and also replaced the lab module's soft flooring with hard flooring, which was deemed necessary for the crew to better maintain their microgravity footing. The Shenzhou 10 crew made a parachute landing early Wednesday morning (June 26) local time, setting down within a target zone in the central Inner Mongolia, with the three astronauts commander Nie Haisheng, Wang Yaping (the second Chinese woman to fly in space) and Zhang Xiaoguang leaving the landed module safe and sound.

They were all awarded a dozen roses, a stuffed pink bunny and a giant blue ribbon for surviving impact, I take it? Do Chinese actually value such weird gestures or is it some sort of infantilized knockoff of American television game shows, just done for the cameras?
Shenzhou (Shen Chou) means “God Boat”, literally. Commies don’t shy away from blasphemy.
Meanwhile, NASA puts out global warming reports and tells muslims how great their science was 11 Centuries ago. At the same time doesn’t have a working launch vehicle to go to the international space station. Go Obama, Go USA (where’s that sarcasm tag at?)
Maybe they were thinking of a Space Based Noah’s Ark?
Hey, let’s put things in perspective, we’ve landed something that’s WORKING in MARS.
The Chinese have yet to do that.
Just what we need. A 60 ton hunk of junk pin-balling around up there. BTW- that rocket looks Russian procured.
Pink Bunny???
See, if they had a real constitution, they wouldn’t have this problem.
Thanks SeekAndFind.
No doubt about it, the theft of American technical knowledge is being applied with spectacular results.
Ladies and gentlemen:
We were at this phase with our own space program, fully two generations ago.
TWO GENERATIONS AGO.
Now we are 17 trillion in debt. We do not even have a space shuttle anymore. And we send everything to China to make.
BRING BACK AMERICAN MANUFACTURING.
Now.
In fact, they didn’t develop any of this stuff...they bought the design from the Russians, tweaked it here and there and said “Hey, look at me, I can do it too!”
As usual, they copied their way to where they are. And where they are is so 60’s.
Old military axiom says: Occupy the high ground. China is in the process of occupying the highest ground there is. We on the other hand are backing away from space to keep those EBT cards loaded. China also has total disregard for even the treaties they have signed much less for those they never signed.
At some point in the near future the Chinese will announce, “We have nuclear weapons onboard our space station and a delivery system that can put a nuclear explosive anywhere in the world in minutes. You WILL comply with our demands”. Our gutting of our space program was foolish and will ultimately be disastrous.
They are just like most of today’s kids, see someone do it on TV or a vid game and suddenly are expert. Why waste time with lengthy trial and error experimentation?
Go from 3 orbits to giant space station... Made with Chinese melamine junk parts, assisted by the ruskis. That ought to really light up the night sky as it comes back down.
