IMO, it might not be that important that they do it.
Their choice if they have a ‘new party’ president, could be to support him or the Democrats. You would hope to get most of the Republicans anyway.
Over the next few years after that win, a lot would change parties to become in tune with the President.

In Texas, we have 36 reps. 24 so-called republicans and 12 RATS.
Of the 24 so-called pubbies, I want to believe that there are, maybe, 10 real Cruz-type supporters of change.
That means in Texas, which is probably more anti-GOPe than any other state, we bring 11 out 38 (just under 30%) DC types to the Freedom Party movement.
Getting the rest of the country to that level would be tough, if not impossible.
