If ever I thought myself objective and unbiased, the George Zimmerman trial is definitely not that moment.
So let's cut to the chase. Any attorney, jury member, judge or white person in that courtroom is not going to understand Rachel Jeantel. And I don't expect them to.
In fact, I certainly, like my fellow writer Rachel Samara, understand why white people wouldn't like Rachel.
She's hard. She's black. And your assumptions about her background and lack of education make you feel like you are better, somehow. That her testimony, no matter how powerful and impactful it may be to this trial, is implausible. Weak, maybe? Let's impeach her.
But maybe the reason white people don't understand Rachel Jeantel has something more to do with white privilege then, what they would call, Rachel's capricious nature.
Let's for one second try to understand why Rachel is "angry" (read emotional), "hood" (read blunt), and "unintelligent" (read multilingual).
The thing is, what white people see in Rachel has little to do about her own issues, and more to say about the America that white people are blind to. Let's take her testimony on not calling the police, for example.

Keep your racist BS ideas to yourself (bleep).
I read some of the comments after the article, and I’m sorrier for it.
But, it reinforces my belief that we cannot live in the same society as people of this culture, regardless of “color”.
Strict enforcement of federalism and states’ rights is the way to keep this from devolving further. Let the libs live in their own lib states with the accompanying problems, and leave us alone in our states.
You jumped on that handle, didn’t you!
You’re right, she’s black. I figured that out as I read down the article. At first I couldn’t understand why any intelligent person could write what she did in the beginning of the article and then I realized the reason.
She seemed to have no qualms about saying a black woman wouldn’t call the police or lying in a court of law is understandable.
If only we could take all the people who feel this way and let them live where there are no police and no rule of law. How long would it be before they change their mind.
After reading that, I’ve gotta go take a Trayvon. Where’s my Guns and Ammo magazine to read while I’m doing that?
Welcome to FR......Viking kitty scan needed.
More racist based BS.
This is exactly why liberals hate states' rights. Because it allows decent people to separate themselves from the consequences of indecent people's behavior choices.
Her act was to bury her lies. Nothing more. If a complete moron was telling the truth the whole time the testimony would have been over quickly compared to what we saw.
My assumptions are based on the fact that she is 19 and still a high school senior, who cannot read and can barely speak. Let's face it, she does not have a bank president job anywhere in her future.
My assumptions also include that in the USA everyone is pretty much guaranteed high school education, but I guess taking advantage of that would be "acting white" huh?
What they should be teaching these kids is that life is tough, it's even tougher if you're stupid. (And even tougher still if you're WILLFULLY stupid.)
LOL, hey, the time was right!!!
She could be green or purple, for all I care. All they’re asking her to do is tell the truth. Her life history is of absolutely zero relevance.
I heard her on the radio before I saw her. When she said “she never watched the news”, that told me all I want to know about her-typical Obama voter.
When cornered by conservative thought they run because we are Realville not dodgeball.
Like that line and thinking.
This young woman is the product of her culture. Likely without a father, raised by her mother, allowed to either wander the streets or to loaf at home, she becomes like her environs and fits in; fits in to her tribe, as it were. In her culture she is not expected to read, work, develop skills, think, or compete.
When she is taken from that and put in a foreign culture like a courtroom full of people from another culture, the reaction of the people in that setting is ‘What the Tar’.
She and her culture are stuck in a multi-generational cycle of low expectations.
The important lesson to learn is that government is not the solution; government is the problem.
What libs really don’t like is that we are impugning the value of their culture. They try to make us not criticize them/it by attributing the criticism to “racism” or impugning a people group because of their color.
It’s not that, and they actually do know that.
The urban/black culture is demonstrably inferior to the normative culture of America - but libs hate that culture because it is based on Christian values.
Rachel will be entering her senior year of high school this coming Fall. Rachel is already nineteen years old.
People who reach to become something other than an instinctual creature do not and cannot understand someone who is content to sit in the intellectual squalor that this woman sits in. What is the point of her existence to her? To get rich? To survive? What is the focus of her life? Nothing.
The point about the police I get, no one calls the police for help. You only call if you want to make things worse. The police don’t help, they take over and calling them is always a wild card.
Your tax dollars at work. Remember this woman, the next time your local school district asks to raise your taxes to "fix" the school system.
