Today, June 28th, is DAY #15 (of 3rd week) State of Florida V. George Zimmerman case. [Yesterday] it was simply not a very good day at all for the prosecution. The primary State witnesses today were Rachel Jeantel, Jenna Lauer, and Selma Mora.
The first had her credibility substantively destroyed, the second was powerfullyalmost humiliatinglyco-opted by the defense, and the third provided testimony entirely consistent with the defenses theory of lawful self-defense. (continue reading)

This guy definetly knows where the Dunkin Donut stores are.
Now Ricardo Ayala — first officer on the scene
This trial is making people who live here very nervous. (I’m about 10 miles from courthouse) in a way we weren’t during Casey Anthony’s trial. I worry for these witnesses. I keep thinking about the “flash mob” phenomena we’ve seen and how it could play out after this trial ends. I can’t imagine being a Sanford cop right now.
God help us.
Does Florida have any physical standards for police? This guy appears obese..
Great opportunity for the defense to ask this cop (or ANY cop) if they have ever ran into someone who was ‘calm’ after having to shoot someone.
I vote for bastard. I sensed him getting a tad hostile to that witness at the end, I can’t get what his game is!
He gets the witness to admit he saw nothing, doesn’t know if this was self defense or not - what??
fortunetly one was enough this time
.
Anyone with a brain knows he said “tell her I shot someone” so his wife wouldn’t be worried that he was the one shot.
Prayers up for you and all who are in the area. I have family there as well and this is just a travesty on every level.
People handle being in shock differently. George was probably in shock. Most people would have been.
West didn’t, to my knowledge, point out or make that point to the jury. Big mistake.
The “calm” question seemed to be nailed by West, but they made a mistake objecting to the use of that word only to have the witness use the word “calm”.
West suggests that GZ was trying to communicate while being cuffed that it was not him that was shot but someone else. The witness said he called GZ’s wife and said there’d been a shooting, and I don’t recall him specifically saying it was not GZ who had been shot.
So, “I shot someone” would be a good way to clarify that.
correction — second officer on the scene — Smith the first.
Comment From Mark
Does anyone else think this prosecutor sounds just like Kevin Costner?
I have to believe that ‘calm’ bit will come up during the defense witnesses. Or at the very least during closing arguments. I doubt O’Mara will overlook it.
Good maybe in a struggle but not for a pursuit on foot (obesity).
Flash mobs....wow, I hadn’t thought about that but a very likely outcome. Maybe they’ll call themselves “Creepy Ass Cracker Mobs”
Smith was first. He arrived within seconds
White male? We’re back to that?
Who is this arrogant prosecutor, I didn’t bother to look up his name last night.
“Does Florida have any physical standards for police? This guy appears obese..”
He’s huge.
He’s Hispanic, but just pointed out that Zimmerman is a white guy.
