WASHINGTON - The top US military officer said on Wednesday he has recommended bolstering Lebanese forces grappling with the fallout from Syria's civil war by sending in military trainers and accelerating arms sales.
General Martin Dempsey also said he had recommended helping Iraq better deal with the re-emergence of al-Qaida.
"We've made a recommendation that as we look at the challenges faced by the Lebanese armed forces, the Iraqi security forces with a re-emerging al-Qaida in Iraq, and the Jordanians, that we would work with them to help them build additional capability," Dempsey told reporters at the Pentagon.

Peace and Security. US taxpayers guarantee it.
Arming the Brotherhood in Syria and Lebanon... What could go wrong?
Iran really runs Lebanon not the Muslim Brotherhood.
What is interesting is that Hamas, which has generally seen itself as a Muslim Brotherhood clone with its chief hiding out in Syria, has disavowed Syria and Iran after seeing them trying to suppress Syria’s Sunnis. I believe that Qatar stood up to pay the bills for Hamas, but not quite sure.
Or is it all a mirage?
Oh - LEBANON. With all the other stuff in the news, I thought it read Lesbian Forces.
Ah yes... Let’s extend the aid to Hezbollah.
What could possibly go wrong?
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.

Well, if we're going to arm the Brotherhood's troops in Syria, it's only fair to provide Hizbollah the same assistance.
He ought to put his marbles to better use and ask WHY he did NOT get any orders to act in Benghazi-Gate in the afternoon on 9/11!!!
MB, HAMAS, AQ, Iran, Hezbollah - Just different flavors of the same poison.
Iran has hosted AQ from day one. And given aid to Hamas from day one. Don’t let the contrived “disagreements” fool you.
“With a re-emerging al-Qaida in Iraq”
From the Chairman of The Joint Chiefs. Why in the hell are we paying our admirals and generals? They get paid to win. I can get analysis from my Grandma. Our admirals and generals are supposed to win. It’s a great life being an admiral or general. The perks are wonderful. But, they are there to win our wars. If they can’t, then it’s off to the scrap heap with them. We have way too much incompetence in our military.
No The Muslim Brotherhood is a Sunni organization, Al Qaida is a Salafist movement that actually believe that Shias are just a bad as Christians and Jews.
Hezbollah is a Shia organization which is actually part of Iran being run by the IRGC.
And that it makes a fig of diff is what you think.
It doesn’t.
We KNOW that Iran hosted AQ from day one. We KNOW that Zalwahiri shuttled back and forth, freely, between Iran, Afghanistan, Pak, Gaza, Lebanon and any other part of the budding caliphate from day one. We know who his hosts were.
All a shellgame. Like the difference between a socialist and a national socialist, just a construct to keep the gawpers gawping.
Hamas has accepted Iran aid but that might be in the past now that they support their fellow Sunnis in the Syrian war.
Send in the Amazon battalion.
The Pentagon was stuffed at the top during the 90s by time servers chosen for the fast track by Bill Clinton. Bush did absolutely nothing to fix that, but just bypassed the Pentagon when he went into Iraq.
Now Obama has put in a bunch of Communist appointees at the top, and time servers all the way down: gay sex in the barracks, talk of women entering the Seals, field commanders willing to sacrifice their troops with crazy rules of engagement, or court martial them for carrying Bibles, and so forth.
A few bad officers will always make it into the higher levels, nothing is ever perfect, but I don’t think it’s ever been this bad before. When someone I know has been sent to Afghanistan these past few years, I just pray that they’ll make it back again. About all they can accomplish out there now, under present management, is to get themselves killed.
