SAVANNAH, Ga. — Watching Paula Deen’s cooking show was a weekend ritual for Marilynne Wilson, who says she’s furious at the Food Network for dumping the comfort-food queen after she acknowledged using racial slurs in the past.
“I was shocked. I thought she’d get a fair trial,” Wilson, a nurse from Jacksonville, Fla., said Saturday after stopping to buy souvenirs at the gift shop Deen owns next to her Savannah restaurant. “I think the Food Network jumped the gun.”
A day after announcing that it’s dropping Deen from its roster of celebrity cooks, the cable network was served heaping portions of Southern fried outrage by her fans.
Angry messages piled up Saturday on the network’s Facebook page, with many Deen fans threating to change the channel for good. “So good-bye Food Network,” one viewer wrote. “I hope you fold like an accordion!!!”
The decision to drop Deen, whose daytime shows have been a Food Network fixture since 2002, came two days after disclosure of a recent court deposition in which Deen was asked under oath if she had ever used the N-word. “Yes, of course,” 66-year-old Deen said, though she added, “It’s been a very long time.”
Deen and her brother are being sued by a former manager of their restaurant who says she was harassed and worked in an environment rife with innuendo and racial slurs.
Wilson’s friend Debbie Brown said the Food Network is “basically convicting” Deen. “They should have waited until it goes to court,” she said.
Deen issued a videotaped apology Friday in asking fans and critics alike for forgiveness. It had been posted online for about an hour when the Food Network released a terse statement that it “will not renew Paula Deen’s contract when it expires at the end of this month.”

While I agree that it is wrong for the black community to complain about this term and then continuously use it, I do not condone it regardless of who says it. Excusing the behavior of Deen by pointing out the improper actions of others is wrong. I, two years ago, had to fire my best friend (of over 30 years) for making the same racist remark while in my employ. Zero tolerance means zero tolerance. The willingness of rappers and entertainers and members of the black community to continue using the term, to me, merely demonstrates ignorance and is a perfect example of lack of self control and self respect.
I hope someone doesn't give them that pleasure some day.

I’ve never called anyone the n word but when I was growing up in Chicago of all places, (I am 60) a very commmon phrase when you had a hards day’s work was “I worked like a n****r”. This was in an all white neighborhood. Think about it. That was a long time ago. Does that phrase fit today? I say no which is why I have not used it since my 30’s. Anoyther term my late dad used a lot when he saw someone get a bunch of money and spend it all stupidly was “They were n****r rich”. Hmmm. He was a sort of prophet.
Then franken kerry should go for his 711 comments, bubba should should have gone for his comments about zero only a few years ago would be serving us coffee. pick and choose liberal progressives and thier black racist cohorts.

Whites (not self loathing whites) need to look at this word as just as hateful as the Nword is to blacks or the sp word is to hispanics.

I had the Food Network on this morning, getting ready for church. The Pioneer Woman was on and then Paula Deen’s Best Dishes was supposed to follow. I kept it on to see if there was any kind of disclaimer at the beginning of her show but they put another episode of The Pioneer Woman on instead.
Pretty brutal. Just trying to erase her like she never existed and made them into a household name. This from the network who didn’t have one single african American chef show several years ago.
Now, I wonder if giving blow jobs outside of marriage is as offensive.

Dumb and fat Paula Deen just got Derbyshired, too bad she’s just another leftist.
I needed to learn more about her before I came to a supportable opinion and at first blush find that she appears to be your standard liberal, obama supporting demonrat.
Three up and three down, end of the inning, but I'll just call it strike one.
However, it appears she has been skewered on on the PC swizzle stick for the n-word, which automatically takes that first strike away, since I don't believe in PC or words that only certain people can say.
Not quite medal material, but worthy of an honorable mention.
Butt, then I find out she is likely on the receiving end of some obamawrath for comments made about Michelle's feeding trough style when big mamaobama came 'round for some food and face time on her tv show.
So, now I quit trying to score this game and am just going to enjoy the show.
Paula Deen is a typical liberal. She campaigned for Obama in 2008, had the Mooch on her show several times and is now getting a taste of the liberal version of “free speech”.
She supports an administration that looks for victims and scapegoats. She’s the scapegoat. The media will hide her voting habits, label her as a “southern racist Republican hick” and get one step closer to making it impossible for any of us to utter a word without being called a racist. Unless of course it’s “honkey”, “cracker’ or “whitey’.
That is my sediments exactly. She sold herself out to that culture of canibols let her enjoy it.
