Great to see you - finally - this evening! An Excellent evening at 8th & I for John-Man's 17th Birthday. Outstanding performances by the President's Own, the Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Silent Drill Platoon and the Marines of Marine Barracks Washington.
I nearly lost it a couple of times. On the way into the Parade, I spoke briefly to a Staff Sergeant - Purple Heart vet of the Afghanistan War. His Dad was a Marine Nam-Vet. He saluted me in his Dress Blues and escorted me to my entry gate.
While we were seated waiting for the Parade to begin, a Staff Sergent assigned to the Guard Company, who was on duty, came over and thanked me for my service and said that he had also served in 3/5. He gave me a Marine Corps Barracks Guard Company Commemorative coin.
Unfortunately, my phone battery was just about dead when I got there, but I did manage to get one shot of the 15 Star 15 Stripe Flag that flies there:
"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"
Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
