Why doesn’t the Israeli government stand up for the rights of Jews to holy sites?
Not only is the Temple Mount no longer “in our hands”, but its easier substitute, the Western Wall, has also been conceded by Israel’s government to a group of femminists and cultural extremists. Judaism’s holiest place on earth today is the site of the most severe religious persecution of the Jews. Israeli governments have failed to stand up to wanton Palestinian acts of desecration. It’s the greatest crime of all—a religious and cultural crime of historic proportions.
Under pressure from Europe’s multiculturalists, United States, political Islam and UNESCO, which are all trying to “de-Judaize” and “Islamicize” the most holy Jewish sites, the State of Israel seems to be giving up its sovereignty on sacred sites. …

I have no problem with this article except for one line. “The Western Wall, has also been conceded by Israel’s government to a group of feminists and cultural extremists.” That is utter nonsense and the description of citizens exercising their rights recognized by the courts as “cultural extremists” is offensive. The Orthodox do not own our country; nor do they set the agenda. If they want to, let them go to the people and ask for a mandate. As for the ultra-Orthodox with their commitment to mass draft dodging, they have no right to even open their mouths on anything as far as I am concerned and the majority of citizens.

Can’t pin that just on Dayan. PM Levi Eshkol made the decision, and field commander Uzi Narkiss halted the plan to blow up the mosque on the Mount as it was being used for command-and-control and sniper fire.

A bit of history disturbs my morning coffee & thinking time. Golda Meier was an American from Chicago, and a de facto communist.
Israel has shot itself in the foot when it was established as a socialist nation.
If G*d exists, perhaps Israel’s socialism may find less theological support than Golda assumed?
I don’t know that there’s any theological support for socialism from a traditional Jewish perspective.
Jews like Meier (who grew up in Milwaukee and Denver) from that era believed if Jews would just become an ethnic group with a geographic homeland and give up that religious stuff, then everything would be all right.
