WCCO-TV has learned that Flynn died Wednesday morning at United Hospital in St. Paul.
Flynn has authored 15 novels centered around the character of Mitch Rapp, an undercover CIA agent. The majority of those novels have made it to the New York Times bestseller list.
Flynn self-published his first book, Term Limits, in 1997 before landing a publishing deal
After releasing his 13th, Kill Shot, Flynn talked with WCCO-TVs Frank Vascellaro about his battle with cancer. You can watch that full interview here.
I was in pain writing the last 2 books, but I didnt know how serious it was, Flynn said in early 2012, at the time of the interview.
He went to doctors, who thought he may have had a bacterial infection in his prostate. But by November of 2010, he said couldnt even sit for even an hour or two.
His message for men with prostate cancer was to stay positive. Never surrender, he told Vascellaro, and find the professionals that can help you beat the disease. Flynn dedicated Kill Shot to the doctors aggressively treating prostate cancer.
Flynn had a wife and three children.

Oh, no. Very sad news.
Sad news indeed. As a struggling author I took encouragement from Flynn’s success on self-publishing.
Both Flynn and Mitch Rapp will be missed.
RIP Vince Flynn. I love your book!
books! not book
May he rest in peace. He was one of my favorite authors. The first few chapters of TERM LIMITS is like porn to someone who gets frustrated with corrupt politicians. That book was not a Mitch Rapp story but in some ways is still my favorite.
I don't understand, did the doctors not catch it when he went? I was under the impression that deaths from prostate cancer in younger men are rare, and that it's only really deadly if caught late in stage.
Huge loss — I always look forward to his next book, and now there won’t be any. Condolences to his family.
Doctors first thought he had an infection. He had Stage III prostate cancer and had surgery and hormonal treatments. The last comments from him on it were optimistic, but this must have been a particularly aggressive tumor.
Oh how I wish we had a real life Mitch Rapp.
I’m posting this link on all Vince Flynn threads today...
