Edward Snowden blames Obama By: Tal Kopan June 17, 2013 11:39 AM EDT
NSA leaker Edward Snowden criticized President Barack Obama for empty promises in an online Q-and-A on Monday, saying the presidents alleged failings influenced his decision to release the secret information on surveillance.
Obamas campaign promises and election gave me faith that he would lead us toward fixing the problems he outlined in his quest for votes. Many Americans felt similarly. Unfortunately, shortly after assuming power, he closed the door on investigating systemic violations of law, deepened and expanded several abusive programs, and refused to spend the political capital to end the kind of human rights violations like we see in Guantanamo, where men still sit without charge, Snowden said in a response to a question from a commenter on The Guardians website.
Snowden was responding to this question: Why did you wait to release the documents if you said you wanted to tell the world about the NSA programs since before Obama became president?
Snowden also said the U.S. would not be able to silence him.
All I can say right now is the US Government is not going to be able to cover this up by jailing or murdering me. Truth is coming, and it cannot be stopped, Snowden said when asked by Guardian reporter Glenn Greenwald what would happen to the information he possessed if something happened to him.
He defended his decision to flee to Hong Kong, claiming the U.S. government did what he expected when the story came out and ruined his chance of a fair trial.
First, the US Government, just as they did with other whistleblowers, immediately and predictably destroyed any possibility of a fair trial at home....

YUP!
Crybaby????
He knows his life is threatened and came forward anyway. Sorry, but that is the definition of bravery.
The MUST be Obedience to the Dear Leader!
Something to remember ... from a critique of a long-ago classified proposal... "Beliefs belong in church."

You make a good point. I’m sitting on the fence about this man. Whether he’s a traitor or a “hero” does not justify the Obama administration treating its own people “Americans” like Castro did to Cubans, China to the Chinese.
Miss Alabama said that she feels safer when the government listens in to her phone calls. I would expect this answer from Miss Massachusetts, but Miss Alabama?
I don’t know what is the more worrisome. That she actually believes what she just said or the PC is so bad that she feels she has to say this to win the pageant.
That’s a great pic.
Wish I could photoshop - I put burquas on all of them.....
So far I agree largely with Snowden and against Obama...
Hmmm...don’t see any wedding rings on those fingers.
Bring the young man home, and grant him “amnesty” on condition of public hearings so he can expose the legislative failures eroding our Constitutional rights... Will never happen since our “representatives”, ultimately responsible for the hearings, enjoy scapegoating the boogeyman they created.
The NSA allegations are symptoms of political corruption, not mechanical corruption.
Hmmm...dont see any wedding rings on those fingers.
Good observation, although you weren't looking at their nose.

The only people in the USA where they will NOT save the date is the President and his cabinet...that will ALL be erased...and fast...
LOL!
Cry baby? He’s done more than you to out this admin.
Obama must have hit the O-Spot in that speech.
Those youth have a lot more wisdom, in this instance, than the nitwits defending this blatant violation of the Fourth Amendment, which is the hugest leap toward a tolatarian state
Left in place, this will unleash itself on us in ways we can’t yet fathom.
Why should they? They all imagine themselves as married The One...
