The shaming was not logical. First, it shamed only the person carrying the evidence. Secondly it shamed the children themselves.

This would be like the illogic of catching and punishing the bank robber who is holding the bag of money, but not the accomplices involved, and then shaming the bag of money for existing.

Like it or not, the woman is the “gatekeeper”.
And the father of the woman is charged with discipling her to understand this role. This is why the family is shamed as well - it’s a failure of discipleship.

When the result of any breaking of law is harsh and certain, the incidents of breaking that law are greatly diminished. You can’t be conservative and reject this concept.

How is it “not logical” to impose a penalty on the key point where societally destructive behavior can be thwarted?
