are NOT ripoffs. Unscrupulous con men invent “charities” with similar sounding names to confuse donors.

You’re correct.
The United Way is not a rip-off going by the 35% rule.
I have decide not to donate to them again, however, for personal reasons.

I’m not sure UW belongs on your list (CEO makes >$1,000,000.00 per year) and they have a history of being a liberal cause support group. They stopped funding to the Boy Scouts because they didn’t allow gay leaders.

“United Way”
The United Way in my community prohibits Salvation Army from having church services before meals.
Anti-traditional value stipulations appear to be attached to all their grants.

The first or at least one of the first to boycott the Boy Scouts aftet they won their SC case. I would never give them a dime and hope they RIH. Why dont you just send your donations to the DNC, ACLU and Planned Parenthood instead.

... United Way, are NOT ripoffs.
But they do play a "shell game" with contributions. They decide how much funding a charity is going to get, say $10K.
Then when contributors designate $200K to that charity, UW takes the "excess" $190K and gives it to the charity(s) of their choice.

United way for many years supported planned parenthood. I think more recently they stopped, but I give only to charities directly. The Denver Rescue Mission is my favorite. Samaritan’s Purse is excellent as well.

United Way ... has had one of the worst returns of the major charities for years.
