Hubei, China - Chinese scientists have discovered a fossil that they claim is the earliest known ancestor of humans.
The find has challenged the long-held belief that apes began their evolution in Africa.
The Archicebus Achilles was discovered in 2002 on a lake bed in China's Hubei province, but took more than 10 years of analysis for scientists to declare it as the world's oldest known primate fossil.
The scientists contend that the 55-million-year-old fossil, which looks a bit like a mouse with monkey-like feet, is the world's oldest known ape-like creature.
"Now after we discovered this fossil, we can say without any doubt, that the evolutionary history of mankind started 10 million years earlier than we originally thought."
The discovery is bound to stir intense debate as to how the creature fits into our understanding of evolution and in particular how it is linked to modern-day humans.

The latest fossil is always the breakthrough, from any continent. Although, this could be a very interesting find that is as advertised.

I think Devo was right: We are de-evolving judging by how many morons out there keep voting Demon-rat. "Say, duuuh...let me keep voting for the party that wants to take as much money as possible from me because I looove working for nuthin'!"

My biggest skepticism regarding these kinds of claims is the assumption that because something is morphologically remotely apelike or primate like that it must be of a common lineage. These kinds of assumptions have in many instances been proven unfounded especially in modern taxonomy where genetic analysis sometimes fails to align with taxonomical classification. Definitely interesting but in the realm of claimed ancestors of man grand claims have been frequent based upon the most circumstantial evidence. This whole field is filled more with the creative imagining of scientists than with real measurable strict analysis based on pure science.

I bet it didn’t come with a tag on it that said “55 million years old”
Perhaps it said “54,998,000 BC” on it somewhere.

Yeah, just like for years the almighty science told us we were evolved from Neanderthals. Then we find out through new science that isn’t true.
Seems science evolves too, which is fine, that’s what it is supposed to do. But what gets me is that is a ‘fact’ until it’s not and if you question it, you are an idiot.
