It was revealed today that the National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon. This top secret order was issued in April.

The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries.

From the look of the dingbats driving around our town with phones in their ears, it would take the Pakistan army to screen the calls.

Oh, oh, I hope I didn't give O any new ideas with that one.

He can’t use the Pakistan Army to scan the calls, they do not understand Ebonics.

For one thing, under an Obama presidency, Americans will be able to leave behind the era of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and “wiretaps without warrants,” he said. (January 2008)

Probably a good idea to sign off all calls with “O eats sh!t with a dirty fork”, if you are a Verizon customer.

How about "I am Spartacus".

"currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon"

I wonder if they're doing the same to Comcast - a major campaign donor to Obama in the last election...

I don’t have Verizon. I have AT&T, but every time my mother and I call each other and get on the sordid topic of Obama, we ALWAYS stop and address any government listeners so that they can be prepared to hear what we really think of Obama.

We do it jokingly, but in the back of our minds we know it could very well be true that the government eavesdrops on its citizens just because it can!

You are going to hear about NSA employees committing suicide very soon from having to listen to thousands of hours of very boring phone calls...

But so what? I’ll use my First Amendment rights, d@mn the consequences.

PS So why do I use a pseudonym? For business reasons.

So what, no one cares.

As long as the free stuff keeps flowing. Stop that, and folks will get real interested.

Government may not be good at much, but one thing they are experts at is wasting money. Just think of all those wasted hard drives, and all the global warming caused by the electricity that spins them.

There are actually computers that can monitor and type out the text of phone conversations. So there is no need to have people listen to them. BTW, the technology has been around for years.
