Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius rebuffed an appeal from Rep. Lou Barletta, R-Pa., on behalf of a girl who needs a lung transplant but can’t get one because of a federal regulation that prevents her from qualifying for a transplant. …
“I would suggest, sir, that, again, this is an incredibly agonizing situation where someone lives and someone dies,” Sebelius replied. “The medical evidence and the transplant doctors who are making the rule—and have had the rule in place since 2005 making a delineation between pediatric and adult lungs, because lungs are different than other organs—that it’s based on the survivability [chances].” …

What rational is there for having the government involved??
Hopefully sooner rather than later.
The alternative is letting individuals sell their own organs.
Not saying that’s wrong, just that that is the alternative.
To Sebelius, this is just a late-term, post-partum abortion - no big deal, good to age 12.
Her notions on geriatric euthanasia will thrill you, too.
This girl would want to change her name to Abon’go Malik Obama, and immediately re-file.
If history is a guide, the transplant will be approved forthwith with no questions asked.

Liberals will pretend to agonize over this sort of decision, but, deep down in their heart of hearts, they love doing this sort of thing because they love power more than anything else. And the power of life and death is most seductive power of all.
Don’t tell me that Kathleen Sebelius doesn’t get a thrill up her leg when she says this ten-year-old girl will have to die. This is her favorite part of the job. And Obamacare is going to give her millions more chances to enjoy this sort of thrill.
The parents should cut a $50,000 check to Organizing for America...

I am beside myself as we have a CHOPS patient ourselves and Chops touts best care.
I had a neice with CS that made it to 18 she bought a car graduated High school. And upon her death said she was very pleased with the accomplishments she had achieved in her short liftime! 17 days does not seem enough to give a child a chance
just because your on the bottom of some list! What are the chances of life for those above her? Is there a time frame that will gel with the load?
And She will eat those words in the future bet on it!
IF it were her child where would he or she be on that list?

What struck me more forcibly is the power this act placed in the hands of the secretary. She has the plenary right to say what is medical care and what is not, like some Mormon prophet revealing the word of God.
The problem, is that the Secretary has the right to SAY what the medical community thinks , whether it actually thinks this way or not.
Yes, partisan appointees with no accountability to the electorate shouldn’t be in charge of these matters no matter which party is in power.
