Amid an unusual spotlight on IRS conduct, a Colorado businessman contends his case is one the government particularly wants to keep hidden, because it could cause the whole federal agency to self-destruct.
Jeff Maehr, a Colorado chiropractor who has engaged in a number of business ventures, including PureHealthSystems.com, admits he has refused to file federal income tax returns since 2002, but he says the IRS is afraid to press criminal charges against him.

He avoided being targeted for avoiding to pay taxes by seeking confirmation of the above in advance, to which no court or government agency (i.e., IRS) could / would provide.
I vaguely remember a similar outcome for a taxpayer in here in the South.
Just sayin'... NOT recommending!
For sure, with the IRS corruption being exposed, I feel more justified in my decision to go Galt after Obama came to power, though I've backslidden some.
RE: His premise is wages aren’t taxable because a person’s labor is considered an expense to them, cites case history, and therefore a wash/not income.
So, why did Wesley Snipes go to jail?
I’ll entertain his premise that the IRS is afraid, briefly. Now we will learn what happens when you brag to the press about it.
Ending withholding would collapse the IRS house of cards.
The article linked, actually mentions that very thing.
My thoughts as well.
Well, I’m still waiting for the courageous IRS to put Al Sharpton in jail.
The IRS had filed a notice of federal tax lien against Sharpton in New York City in the amount of over $538,000 for years now and this man is still out and about ( Heck I see him on TV every time I happen to switch channels to Fox News ).
That would make it closer to a flat tax for sure.
I had a pal...never got a SS card...never filed
Until arrested at aged 45 for marijuana business
Extradited from Hong Kong to back here (TX)
Got 6 years concurrent to a 10er for never filing (Feds..Big Spring)
Had he never been arrested he might still not be paying
He had early passport back when they did not require SS number...believe it or not
I used to tell him he was crazy...he had land all over Texas...I don’t know how he kept up with it all...paid cash for everything.
Now that the beast is out in the open it will be much easier to starve it.
That’s amazing. He should write a book!
You can forget that one. AlSharpton is protected by both the Democrat and Republicans. The Democrats because he is one of them. The Republicans because they are scared to do anyjing to him. the media may call them “meanspirited”.
“Ending withholding would collapse the IRS house of cards.”
Changing election day to April 16th would have the same effect. There is a reason that election day and tax day are 6 months apart.
If 100 million or even 10 million citizens spread all over the country refuse to pay the income tax, what would they do? Do they have a huge military hidden somewhere that I’m not aware of? 10 million armed citizens could take on anything that any regime in history could throw at them.
bttt
This may have had something to do with it:
" The conspiracy charge against Snipes included allegations that he filed a false amended return, including a false tax refund claim of over US$4 million for the year 1996, and a false amended return, including a false tax refund claim of over US$7.3 million for the year 1997. "
This guy is going to jail.
My Chiro is thinking about trying something similar, and I have told her it isn’t a good idea.
They would do two things: 1. Continue printing, and 2. Bring the power of the entire Federal government down on a few, to set examples.
I hear ya. :-) But it's also why I went Galt instead.
What's really criminal, is they're using the fruits of our labor to destroy our country and us along with it...
Well it wasn't because he was black. He used a different defense which was bogus. I thought he was unfairly punished (as I do about most IRS scofflaws). Pay a fine, do some community work plus interest on back taxes . . maybe, but jail time? No.
Wage slaves are indeed slaves of a gov't who actively hates them.
