Keeping in mind the “All in the Family” producer, Norman Lear, is so left, the worst thing that ever happened in his view was the collapse of the Soviet Empire. I literally heard him say that the only problem with Communism is that it hasn’t yet been done right .... theoretically, according to Norman, once someone gets that formula down the world will clamor for communism!

SO that being said, how likely is it that the original intent of Archie’s character was to get the left’s panties in a knot? I think not so much as to make fun of a middle aged, middle class white guy who was painted as a small-minded bigot vs. his ever so brilliant and liberal son-in-law, Meathead. That backfired, of course, but it was probably the last think Lear & Co. expected.

Hey, like most on the left, what would it matter to him...he was rolling in the dough... ‘money and fame’ will always speak louder to a lefty than any political leanings he has. They can all be “bought”.

You are correct.

I bet Norman was all puffed up because he'd look at the ratings and think they were cheering his liberalism.

No....they were tuning in because they loved Archie.

I remember after 9-11 someone played Archie's solution to skyjacking (he suggested passengers be issued pistols before boarding) and then remarked: "Doesn't sound so stupid now".
