LOL....nobody really cared one way or the other...Archie and Edith were loved by all. ..and I have no doubt Gloria and Meathead were equally seen as the typical college age students trying to “teach” their parents.... Ha! Mine still do that on occasion, though they are fully grown men with families of their own!

.....”That backfired, of course, but it was probably the last think Lear & Co. expected”....

Hey, like most on the left, what would it matter to him...he was rolling in the dough... ‘money and fame’ will always speak louder to a lefty than any political leanings he has. They can all be “bought”.

That backfired, of course, but it was probably the last think Lear & Co. expected.

You are correct.

I bet Norman was all puffed up because he'd look at the ratings and think they were cheering his liberalism.

No....they were tuning in because they loved Archie.

I remember after 9-11 someone played Archie's solution to skyjacking (he suggested passengers be issued pistols before boarding) and then remarked: "Doesn't sound so stupid now".

Give an example. Pauline Kael called ‘Straw Dogs’ and ‘Dirty Harry’ fascist art. I loved both. Triumph of the Will? Potempkin?

I don't know. The only words I understood in that sentence were Dirty Harry. It might be "hardcore conservative", and normally it would grab my attention, but I'm kind of all Dirty Harry'd out right now.

Why don't you say something conservative sounding, like something about a famous American general, or old-school Christianity.

I need to get my conservative juices all revved up to talk about fascist art.

OK you dragged me back. I think what unites everyone here is the desire to perpetuate Western Culture and civilization. The problem is anti-Western forces who try to get ‘dead white men’ out of the curriculum. Those are the forces I’m dedicated to opposing.

Sorry to see you go....but can hardly blame you. Still, it was great to read your posts and agree that “The Good Old Days” was a truly great show....and still gets people rolling down the aisles!

“Those Were the Days” was its original title I think.

There's a vast right-wing conspiracy.

The problem is anti-Western forces who try to get ‘dead white men’ out of the curriculum.

Well, I've had some boring history teachers, but not that bad.

Those are the forces I’m dedicated to opposing.

Say, you never actually said you did not work for an intelligence service. Just curious...

It’s funny because I remember thinking of that the last time I saw that episode (it’s when Archie gives an ‘Equal Time’ speech on the news). If you arm even half of the passengers you would never have a hijacking again.
