Rosen, Sheryl Atkinson, and the folks at the AP who got bugged should be the only attendees. And it should be done over the phone.
Has there ever been a truly off-the-record meeting with the press? Doubtful, there will always be leaks, etc and somebody will bring a tape recorder (nowadays just an app on your phone). Another brilliant idea from Holder - will be fun to see this backfire.
I’m setting up a pool on Holder’s termination - right now I’d say the over/under is 30 days.
I can just see Obama directing his servants to go into a room and study ways
to make him Emperor of The New Amerikastan, and to get rid of the Constitution for good.
Media really has just 2 choices:
- do not attend
- go and report fully on the meeting
To do anything else is to be a ‘lapdog’ press, by all objective views.
I have an idea - how about just going there and recording it and presenting it on TV? As in “not off-the-record”, which is how most everything done by this government should be.
Actually, can’t blame anybody from declining.
Since it’s off the record, anything they repeat can and will be used against them in the court of law. Holder wants to circumvent the first amendment by telling secrets to the press, but expecting the press to not repeat it. A trap, IOW.
It’s apparent Holder has no problem not telling the truth to the Congress so who expects him to be honest with a gagged press.
So does that leave only right knee-pad WaPo and left knee-pad POLITICO? Who is actually attending?
!
Hmm.. interesting.
Are they screwing over Americans, being chicken, or dissing Holder?
Sometimes, the gov’t will provide the press w/classified information if the topic is hot enough. This could be what the meeting was about and why it needed to be off the record.
I.e., they may have been ready to provide info on what information was really compromised and what steps they took to get it, in classified detail.
Just guessing. I’m not privvy to anything.
First the New York Times, now Fox. Truly strange bedfellows.
The press is finally reacting to the secretive stuff. Hope this sticks.
In the ‘off-the-record’ briefing a misdirection would be presented as a national secret...with a not so thinly veiled threat about not reporting the subject matter. An un reportable cover story they can’t further pursue that would by intent displace all other future stories to the contrary.
See simple.
