Sometimes, the gov’t will provide the press w/classified information if the topic is hot enough. This could be what the meeting was about and why it needed to be off the record.
I.e., they may have been ready to provide info on what information was really compromised and what steps they took to get it, in classified detail.
Just guessing. I’m not privvy to anything.
Yeah Michelle will fly before the DOJ provides any media outlet with classified info
This would have been a birch fest. Possibly threatening reporters
Like you, I've gotten all my legal training from the old Perry Mason episodes. I think the evidence would be admissible. The press are not police, nor agents of the police.
I think this would be like a criminal bragging to the bartender in a bar. "Keep it to yourself Mac, but I just robbed the first National Bank."
The bartender could promise to keep quiet. But he could then call the cops. And the cops could use that evidence.
First the New York Times, now Fox. Truly strange bedfellows.
The press is finally reacting to the secretive stuff. Hope this sticks.
In the ‘off-the-record’ briefing a misdirection would be presented as a national secret...with a not so thinly veiled threat about not reporting the subject matter. An un reportable cover story they can’t further pursue that would by intent displace all other future stories to the contrary.
See simple.
Comrad Col E. HOLDER just wanted to meet with his sympathetic media friends and knew that off the record would narrow down his audience. We won’t know what was said. This is what this administration was referring to when Bo Bo said his would be transparent. So much so we couldn’t see it today. Responsible news folks will also boycott Jay Carney’s press briefings, he and company are shameless liars.
