(well..yes!!!!!)
A large number of police should be in another line of work.
That is also an opinion I have heard from a senior instructor at a police Academy. I tend to agree.
It’s being reported that “two deputies” were involved. It also seems that reporters tend to use the terms stun gun and taser interchangeably. Police spokesman said “Taser”.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Liz Mills said two deputies responded to the store for a disorderly conduct incident after receiving report that a Customer Demonstration Services provider started acting strangely.
On the scene, the deputies gave Scott multiple commands to drop the weapon, but she did not respond, Mills said. At that point, one of the deputies used a stun gun on Scott in an attempt to subdue her. During a briefing on the scene this afternoon, Sheriff Mike Chapman said the taser “did not work.”
So far the evidence from the witnesses fails to support your wild theory.
Yes, I am prejudiced against cold blooded murder, by anyone, but especially those that are paid princely salaries to protect us from such things.
PS Was the pizza made in China too?
Stories like this one remind me of The X-Files. Did anybody notice a strange cable guy playing around on the utility poles near this woman’s house?
“Mhai Scott” is a Philippine name. The last name Scott is an Anglicization of the Philippine name “Sikat”, and very popular with Philippinos who have immigrated to the US.
Ok genius. In case you have not figured it out, the Police Manuals, the SOP, are THE problem.
Cops are trained to be trigger happy. That is THE problem.
Cops are trained to kill and kill quick. No De-escalation required.
Do cops these days have no fricking finesse? Why do they always seem to shoot to kill? You are right, they could have subdued her with pepper spray, a tazer, even a non lethal shot. But no. They have to for the kill. WHat if she was mentally ill? There have been stories in the news about cops killing mentally disabled people acting up. I do not think they have the right to take lives playing judge, jury and executioner.
Just to round out the argument:
Justify your training. Legitimize tyrannical, stupid, brutish, thug like behavior. Justify big Gubment. Better yet, go home and gnaw on all that gubment cheese in your pantry. Too many years on the public dole will affect ones judgment to be sure.
This sounds like something that happened in my city about twenty years ago. A patient at a local dentist’s office began acting erratically after receiving a routine anesthetic. They cleared the office and called the cops. Three cops arrived and cornered the guy in a hallway. He pulled out a small object, similar to a nail file, and the three cops proceeded to blow him to kingdom come. The city settled with his survivors for a large amount.
Indeed, Costco’s are deadly places...deputies shoot innocent workers (Virginia) and innocent CCW guys (Las Vegas)...
Obviously, we should not shop where there is this kind of danger.
You've never had a take and bake pizza from Costco, have you? They are very good. My favorite is the five meat pizza.
They are in Costco! Pick up a damn chair, cop!
I could keep a crazy woman from stabbing me with one of those folding chairs. I could bash her on the head with it too.
Nope, gotta shoot everybody today. Cops are becoming a joke. Shoot first and ask questions later.
How about THEY ARE AT COSTCO. The place with a million heavy bulky objects in all the isles. Throw a table at her legs. Throw a sack of sand at her mid-section. I don’t care. It is not as if there is a lack of any number of long or bulky objects a person can use to ward off a knife weilding whack-job woman.
Throw a TV at her. I don’t care.
No, they shoot first and ask questions later.
Shoot first and ask questions later.
When all you have is a hammer, everybody looks like a nail. You are in COSTCO! Go grab a rake or a broom. Nope, gotta shoot first and ask questions later.
Welcome to the modern state of cops. I can’t even call it “law enforcement” anymore. It is a police state.
Nobody carries a baton anymore? You have 8 cops. Nobody can draw a baton and hit her from the side while another cop distracts her?
Look, I’m not talking about stupid movie stuff like shoot to knock the knife out of her hand. An assailant with a knife is extremely dangerous inside 20-25 feet. They can close that gap in two seconds. An assailant on drugs or mentally deficient can be as persistent as they are aggressive. But I’m sorry, Costco has myriad goods they sell all over the store. They have shopping carts everywhere.
A cop can’t just grab a shopping cart and ram her and pin her? I mean WTF? You are telling me among the 8 cops, one of them could not find something to use as a prod, shield, barrier, or anything to use to physicall imair her ability to use the knife. A knife is a contact weapon. Prevent contact and you prevent the attack.
For all I know she was crazed making her stronger and more aggessive. Still, they didn’t have a shopping cart they could use to hold her at bay, or a table, or a shovel or rake or any other object nearby? Pick up a coffee mug and aim for the head? Anything but shoot and kill her?
How dangerous can this dingbat have been in that she only was waving the knife and scissors around in all the time before the cops got there. So she’s waving the scissors and knife around 10 or 15 minutes. Nobody gets stabbed.
The cops go in KNOWING they are approaching a knife wielding potential assailant, and not a single one of them grabs a long item or tool to use to block her from closing in on them?
Are cops just stupid today?
Lazy. We have lost some critical thought skills. Reminds me of the first Men in Black where they take the best of the best in to shoot @ the villains.... well, that guy was just blowing his nose, that guy is working out, that little girl out in the middle of the night in a bad neighborhood with physics books, she is up to something.
What I do "purport" to read are newspapers. Maybe you should start reading more of those.
First off, this is my local Costco and either myself or the wife are there with some regularity, so I paid a bit more attention.
Having cops in the family and understanding the difficulties of the job, my usual reaction is to give them the benefit of the doubt in this type of situation. HOWEVER, I do want to hear an explanation as to why 8 cops felt that they were in serious enough danger to fire what is being reported as 6-8 shots in a crowded store. Additionally, the fact that the suspect was hit ONCE and a deputy was wounded by friendly fire in a case where the suspect did not have a firearm, and was presumably at close range, makes me wonder about both the judgment and the marksmanship of our local law enforcement here in Loudoun County.
Just for context, aside from a small portion of Leesburg, Loudoun County experiences essentially ZERO violent crime and has the highest income level in the country. The typical sheriff’s deputy is about 25 years old and spends the majority of his time parked at stop signs looking to hand out tickets for overdue inspections. My interactions with them have always been perfectly pleasant, and they seem to be decent people, but we’re not talking about grizzled beat cops working the South Bronx.
I’ll reserve judgment until all the facts are in, but I think there are some questions to be answered here on first blush.
