This is like letting a serial killer into my home and then after he murders someone, trying to oppressively restrict what my family is allowed to discuss at the dinner table, as if that were the reason for the murder.

Exactly. Socialist and communists love to take away freedom in the name of “safety.” The ruse is that they freedoms they take away are only marginally related to the issue. The issue here is not “hate speech.” The issues are Islamism and immigration. But it’s much easier to take away liberty from law-abiding citizens than to tackle the real problems of Islamism and immigration.

Nope. The death penalty was suspended in 1965 and done away with in 1969, when Britain had very very low rates of murder. (the UK still has a low level of murders: 1.2 per 100000, the US is four times that).

I agree the gun laws were kneejerk and myopic. Knife control is a bit of a myth. The rise in crime has been and remains against property, rather than people. Also the high rate has a lot to do with methods of classification, which tends to skew the UK figures to make us look more violent than we are.
Remember UK crime rates were famously incredibly low. And even with rising rates, the UK remains, despite the US hype and myth, a safe/very safe country to live in. I know, I am British.

Libel law has been around for some time. They arent a new creation as you suggest. And political exposes in the UK usually fail when they try a libel defence. Libel laws in the UK are more likely to be used by celebrities.

Oh, I think you fight back, even as bad as it is. UK has needed a leader, not had one since Margaret Thatcher. Maybe it took something like the Woolwich massacre to wake them up.
Think about the Netherlands. It took the slaughter of Theo vanGogh to wake up the Dutch who have since adopted measures to get the Muslims there under some kind of control.
Methinks the UK would be tougher than the Netherlands. Better than sitting back continuing to just wring their hands. I applaud Cameron for taking positive steps, however limited they may appear to us. It’s more than our POTUS would ever consider.
The death penalty was suspended partly to do with great public and political worries over several famous controversial 1950’s/60’s cases where many believed it wasnt a necessary punishment (Ruth Ellis) or the hanged man was innocent (Timothy Evans, James Hanratty**).
**—ironically, I have read widely on both cases and believe Evans WAS GUILTY and in 2002 DNA evidence showed Hanratty WAS guilty.

Stupid, but I would point out that the police have 500 officers investigating the murder and they have made several arrests of Muslims in connection to the killing.

I prefer sources whose accountability I can research for myself. For example, is there an autobiography? A biography which Charles has approved? Interviews by people whose other works and reputations can be researched?
