California reveals prices for health insurance under Obamacare (Pelosi, Waxman exempt)
NBC News ^ | 5/24/13

California has unveiled prices that consumers will pay for a selection of health plans offered through the state under the Affordable Care Act, providing a glimpse into how health care reform may look as it is rolled out across the nation.

**SNIP**

Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman, who backed the health reform act, said the program would protect millions from bankruptcy due to medical costs.

"Californians buying coverage on their own will now have access to the same quality coverage that people get through their employers at the same or lower rates," he said.

California's exchange will offer coverage from 13 insurers; more than 30 had applied to participate.

Under the federal health care reform law, people who do not get or cannot afford health insurance through their jobs can buy coverage through an exchange, at a group rate negotiated by state regulators.

They forgot to mention that it's mandatory.

People would be making a mistake in thinking that Pelosi cares whether or not we are aware of her self imposed elitism. Once these people gain power, they are no longer in need of our approval, especially since we don’t do anything against corruption.

-——the same quality coverage-——

Regarding quality, the four that are the best in the business are not now present in California so the quality has declined

We will now see those duped into being part of the exchange lose their asses

I think by the time we end 2016...we will find ninty percent of Americans will confirm that their quality of health insurance...is nowhere near what it was in 2010. The pricing? At least a quarter higher than it was before.

It was mostly all a shell-game. We would have to pay fifty percent more....to get the same amount or same quality of care that we had before.

The logic? It won’t be explainable, and that will be the part that dooms political figures.

“”It's a revolutionary improvement to move from a broken market where people are charged by how sick they are, to a competitive market where people pay what they can afford, based on a percentage of their income, on a sliding scale,” said Anthony Wright, executive director of advocacy group Health Access.”

Tell me how this isn't socialism/communism? This is just another form of wealth redistribution. Insurance costs should not be decided by how much money you make. Should car prices be decided by how much money you make? Should the grocery store ask what your income is before deciding how much to charge you for milk?

The underlying assumption here is the same tired old highly inaccurate and ignorant belief that all inequality is based on unfairness. That's fundamentally untrue, as are the majority of the left’s beliefs.

Leftist progressives don’t care about either cost or quality. It’s all about creating their imaginary Utopia. This is why about 50% of the country will claim Obamacare is great no matter how bad it is. Examples of this phenomenon come from countries like Canada and Western Europe, where vast swaths of the citizenry espouse the “greatness” of their health care systems, even though objective data show these systems are based on highly restrictive rationing and lack of access to good care. Rational arguments have no place in any discussion of the achievement of statist ideals. This is a basic fact that conservatives must learn from day one.

California may reveal the price, but not NBC News!
Why is that?

The leftists want Obamacare to be an utter CF to eliminate opposition to their preferred Euro-style "single payer."

The Exchange will somehow be magically more competitive by offering fewer products from fewer companies with mandated product designs to people who have to buy the product or pay a fine to the IRS.

Simple way for Republicans to end Obamacare. Write a bill that exempts no one, including congress.

Wen the Senate kills the bill or the President refuses to sign it you now have 2014 campaign ads.

There is no way the Dems would sign onto that.

The minimum wage California worker who was earning $8/hr ($8 x 40 x 4 = $1,280/month) will now earn ($8 x 29 x 4 = $928/month) and have the option of buying health insurance for $247-$325/month or paying a fine to the IRS. (Ignoring payroll taxes this leaves $603-$681 per month for food, shelter and transportation.) Now Obama can claim he's made everybody rich! At a "tax" rate of about 50%, the $8 worker must be rich now, right?

The deems in Congress forcing this upon us are so wealthy, they don’t even need to have insurance. They can pay for anything with just their walking around money.

The minimum wage California worker who was earning $8/hr...

Actually that min. wage person won't pay anything for insurance because they will be on Medicaid (or Medical in CA). So you and I will be paying for it.

But you're spot on them not getting more than 29 hour work weeks anymore to avoid the penalty.

Unintended consequences...

You are exactly right! Companies are already reducing full time workers and hiring part time workers to replace them. More will be on welfare because it will be harder to raise a family on even lower income.

$400 a month is very cheap and that’s the high end. Independent buyers are not going to be disappointed with these prices. They will not understand that those of us work are paying through our companies who will have to pay inflated prices.

My girlfriend pays $14,000 a year for her medical coverage. Someone is going to pay the difference between the $4800 per year that she will now pay and the $14,000 per year that she has been paying.

After the first year, there will be massive numbers of companies dropping their current insurance plans. They will quickly see how many millions of $ they can save by doing this, by paying the relatively small fines, and by letting/essentially forcing their employees to switch from their regular HMO/PPO plans over into plans provided on the exchanges. Many companies won’t do this for year one of the exchanges, but for year two open enrollment, there will be a massive shift. The cost of subsidies in federal tax outlays as a result of this shift will totally dwarf initial official “projections.”

Surprise, surprise: people and companies will respond to the incentives they’re faced with.

Also surprise, surprise, IDIOT Liberals totally fail to grasp even simple economic concepts, and lead the sheeple down a path that promises utopia but delivers poverty, dependence and class envy and warfare.

If the employer will no longer provide health insurance would the employees salary go up the amount of the employer paid health insurance? I damn well bet the employee with get shafted. And even if they get the increase they will have to be included as taxed income. When all the shi! is done you can bet that the employee will get screwed.
