Marriage age for most of the United States was 13 until 1929. The country was formed and built with this age limit. A lot of everyone’s grandparents here marry under the age of 15 and had that marriages lasted. Not that I believe in marrying at 13 or 15 for that matter, but if that 18 year old girl was 17 years 11 months and 29 days this wouldn’t be a story. Common sense is not being applied to our laws. The rule in Florida says it is a problem when there are four or more years between the under age child and the other person regardless of gender.

You do know that marriages of those under age 18 required the consent of the parents, right?
In this case, the sex act generated a request by the parents of the 14-year-old girl to prosecute the offender. It hardly seems likely that the parents would have granted consent to a marriage.
Therefore, the parallel does not apply.
