Affeldt got three opinions saying the contract was ironclad and he could keep the extra $500,000, from the Players Association, agent Michael Moye and even Giants assistant general manager Bobby Evans.
Affeldt recalled Moye telling him, "You know what? As your agent I've got to tell you that legally you can keep it. As a man who represents integrity, I'm saying you should give it back."
And that's what Affeldt said he did, redoing the contract with the $500,000 excised.
"I talked to Bobby the next day and said, 'I can't take that money,' " Affeldt said. " 'I won't sleep well at night knowing I took that money because every time I open my paycheck I'll know it's not right.' "

Yeah, you know those athletes are SO GREEEEEDY! Good Guy!
Hear, Hear, Jeremy Affeldt!
And what’s so sad is that there are a LOT of people who will read this and call him a chump. Good man, integrity still counts when the money’s all gone.
I wonder who he voted for?
He’s a quality guy. He played a couple of seasons with the Rockies and I wish they would have kept him.
This is what a person with a working conscience, who wants to be able to sleep at night, and be able to look at himself in the mirror, does.
Good for him.
Indeed, Integrity Matters.
Isn’t there a person that is on the radio that says that?
Class!!
I’ve known Affeldt as a follower of Christ since he came up with the Royals.
Not surprised.
Nice to see there are some with integrity ... Good man, Jeremy!!!
Affeldt’s integrity presents a model for others in professional sports to follow. It may be too much to hope for that this will happen.
I like to be the guy for whom $500,000.00 is a rounding error.
If he had "come out" as a queer, it would have been big time news all over the country. He did the absolute right thing and I have great respect for him personally but still hope the Cardinals pounds his team this year.
I had lunch today with my best friend. He noticed that the bill seemed too small by about 1/3, and told the manager, who insisted it was correct.
He then saw the owner on the way out, and handed over his credit card, saying that the manager really made an error, and we should have been charged more.
Integrity is a wonderful thing.
That's something we'll NEVER see in this Government, specially ODUMBO.
Good for him. I can’t wait for ESPN to crucify him.
I found my decoder ring. Just had a glass. ;-)

He just saved at least $250k in taxes.
Jeremy Affeldt is well known to be a brother in Christ. Good on him for walking the walk.
