Scientists have found a source of water 2.4 km below the earth's surface near Timmins, Ont., that's believed to be at least a billion years old.
The water was found by geochemists from the University of Manchester and the discovery was published in the journal Nature.
The scientists don't know if the underground water contains any living creatures, but said it's high in methane and hydrogen, which could support life.
They found the water in the 2.7-billion-year-old sulphide deposits in a zinc and copper mine near the northern Ontario city.
Previously, no known free-flowing water passing through the cracks in the Earth's crust has remained isolated for such a long period of time.
Scientists used three types of evidence to determine the water's age, based on the noble gases in the water.
Fountains of the deep?
You keep your water out of my whiskey and I’ll keep my whiskey out of your water.
Reptilicus!
It tends to get watery after awhile.
Well, you science wizzers, here some noble gas... that you can age!
The source of water, not the water, is billions of years old I believe.
If this water flowed thru the cracks, new water has flowed thru the cracks too.
These are scientists?
“He IS the Quizzat Shadrack!!!!!”
What was that short broad’s name in Dune???
Lol
Linda Hunt played the Shadout Mapes.
BTW...it's 'Quisach Haderach'...the term used mainly by the Bene Gesserit to describe the prophesied Super Being.
I remember seeing her in a half a dozen movies for about a year or two, then nothing...
She was in Year of Living Dangerously too, I think...about dictator Sukarno in Indonesia. Mel Gibson was in that too, I think.
Indications are there will be life in that water - dangerous critters that have been waiting for millions of years to eat people.
A really really good icemaker on the underground fridge???? (blink blink)>/f>
She’s a regular on NCIS Los Angeles...really unbelievable show
I don’t watch TV too much...
“Top Shot”, “Sons of Guns”, “The Walking Dead”, and old movies on Turner Classic or On Demand...that’s about it.
Most of what comes out of Hollywood is just absolute garbage these days IMO, and I can’t stomach it.
I remembered her because she was so damned short, but had a large presence on the screen; seemed like she was everywhere for a while, then pffft! - nowhere to be seen.
That Year of Living Dangerously was a good flick.
I also remember one about Cambodia - “Killing Fields” with Sam Waterston(?) from around then too. She wasn’t in that, but the movies was excellent, about the communist Khmer Rouge takeover of Cambodia and subsequent slaughter they perpetrated on the disarmed people.
<0.001%
;)
You may as well claim everything was created with a false history and false memories last Thursday.
“Silverado” too.
That was a good flick... always enjoy a good western.
Think that was an HBO produced movie...?
ok
