RUSH: Now, I've had people say, "Rush, how do we handle this? What's the best way to deal with all this?" See if you agree with this. Dr. Krauthammer on Fox News Special Report during the All-Star Panel last night, Bret Baier said, "Charles Krauthammer, when the president says there's no 'there' there, it almost seemed that he was challenging reporters to say, 'No, really, there's no "there" there.'"
KRAUTHAMMER: The one advice I'd give to Republicans is stop calling it a huge scandal. Stop saying it's a Watergate. Stop saying it's Iran-Contra. Let the facts speak for themselves. Have a special committee, a select committee, the facts will speak for themselves, pile 'em on; but don't exaggerate, don't run ads about Hillary. It feeds the narrative of the other side that it's only a political event. It is not. Just be quiet and present the facts.
RUSH: Okay, so shhhhh. Don't say anything, folks. 'Cause all you're gonna do is make the independents mad, and they'll just run back to the Democrats. Don't pile on. Don't gloat. Don't say, "I told you so." Just let the facts speak for themselves, just shh, shh, shh, shh, it'll take care of itself. No matter what the Democrats do, no matter what they say about you, no matter what they say about us, you just shh, shh, don't say anything.

RUSH: Now, Charles Krauthammer on Fox last night said that we need to let the facts speak for themselves and that you people are making a mistake, Republicans are making a mistake, if you compare this to Watergate or if you compare this to Iran-Contra. Don't call Obama Nixon! You know, don't exaggerate. Don't run ads on Hillary. Just let the facts speak, 'cause if you do all that stuff, that's gonna feed the narrative that all you are is political, and that all you are is trying to defeat Obama politically and then people aren't gonna like you.
So with that in mind, let's go to sound bite number eight. It's the NBC Nightly News. The anchor, Brian Williams, was talking about the AP phone records scandal and the IRS targeting conservative groups.
WILLIAMS: As a lot of American adults not so fondly remember the last time the government was found looking into the phone calls of reporters and using the IRS for political purposes, it was the Nixon era. And while times have changed and circumstances are different, that subject came up at the Obama White House today as the administration now scrambles on several fronts.
RUSH: Oh. Brian Williams there just compared Obama to Nixon. Supposed back off, let the facts speak for themselves.

Tiresome bunch of privileged trust funders, except for Jonah Goldberg. He can write a good sentence but is completely overrated...I guess Ailes likes him as much as Geraldo.
K isn’t saying be mum about all this. Basically, he is reminding us of the old rule that when your opponent is self-destructing, stay out of the way.
Have investigations, the Benghazi hearing with the three whistle blowers came to mind, and the public get to see Dems making political hay while Repub trying to get the whistle blowers to tell the facts.
I think Williams comparing Obama to Nixon was exactly what Krauthammer was getting at. We know the media loves the dems. Something inside them is fighting against this negative narrative. By vocally agreeing with the media - who believe they’re “doing something wrong” by going after the dems - the Republicans run the risk of turning the media against them.
Krauthammer believes by the republicans keeping quiet, the media will continue the negative Obama narratives. He saying when your enemy is making a mistake - let him.
Pros and cons to both approaches - probably no right or wrong way to go about it.
Just to warn you: moderators are coming down on people who think the GOPe had something to do with this. I’m not criticizing you, just alerting you.
He may have a point in that Watergate and Iran-Contra may as well be Tea Pot Dome to today’s low-information voter.
Let Obama establish the low-bar for himself.
They are only attacking Obama because they feel he wronged THEM. The risk is that by piling on, the media will go back to its first love, that being Obama.
Not saying that they did. Just saying that if you are playing tin foil games, play them all the way.
There is some truth in what Krauthammer’s statement.
Like the old saying goes, “Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a fool of himself.”
I’m not sure where the line is...
I think the Administration’s self-immolation is far more effective than if the Republicans start screaming OMG OMG look at the fire, the WH is ablaze with scandals. The media is starting to run with this, if Republicans start screaming, they might go back into protective mode.
What he is suggesting is take a mature, serious approach to these serious allegations and don't hype them. They don't need to be hyped to be made out to be serious. They are serious. Don't over play your hand.
The media is not going to back off this story. The GOP can always jump in if they do. But the story made the front page, top of the fold in our daily newspaper. It also was the lead story on the three local news stations.
Don't bury the traction this story is getting by going over the top. Stay measured and press methodically. There is a "there" there. Let the facts speak. They are far more effective.
No, what I’m saying is that I don’t want you to get in trouble with the mods. That’s all I’m saying. They’ve gone after other posts like this today. If you don’t care, that’s, of course, fine with me.
Spot on!! The media is just salivating for a tidal wave of overheated sky is falling responses from the Right. Kraut is right. Let the evidence pile up and tell the story. If it does, no heated rhetoric is needed. If it doesn’t, no amount of rhetoric will have any effect.
There’s an old saying in politics that when your opponant is in the process of destroying himself it’s best to stay out of the way
Good idea, but not always applicable. Sitting it out completely might give the opponant an opportunity to recover. I’d say its better to be cautious and use a light hand, keeping ready to exploit at the last possible moment.
I felt that the Wright “Damn America” revellation could have destroyed Obama had it been properly managed to achieve it’s greatest impact in early October 2008. Felt the same thing about the various Clinton sex scandals.
Conservatives need to appreciate the value of a drip drip drip scenario and restrain our impulses to charge in where angels fear to tread on this. We have a year and a half until the midterms, plenty of time to manage this in the most beneficial manner possible
I understand Krauthammer’s point, play it cool.
Karl Rove hates the Tea Party!
Be Ever Vigilant!!
Byron York pretty much said the same thing this morning on Fox.
Of course Krauthammer is right.
There is no IF about it.
Krauthammer hates the TEA Partiers, and particularly Sarah Palin. He doesn’t want them to be right about being spied upon by Big Government. And these revelations have proven they were absolutely right in their accusations.
Grow up, Krauthammer. You have been proven wrong and an apology is due.
