Blood stains are still visible on the sidewalk at the corner of Flower Street and Palm Drive, where a Bakersfield man struggled with as many as nine officers and later died this week.
David Sal Silva, 33 and the father of four young children, died early Wednesday morning after deputies say he fought with them and CHP officers who'd responded to a report of a possibly intoxicated man outside Kern Medical Center.

Isn't this the same jurisdiction as ol' Ed Jagels and his child abuse witch hunts? If so, that "checkbook" has had lots of withdrawals already.
Prayers up for the man’s family.
May justice be done.
Geez. In 1974 we’d see a drunk guy, tell him to get in the car (if h was a danger to himself or others) and take him home. If he gave us any crap we’d kick him in the nuts, take him to jail where he’d sober up and let him go. I think we were Peace Officers then. No Tasers.
Reading this and all the other cop hating threads that pollute Free Republic, that seems like a logical position to take.
“Remember folks. Never talk to a pig. Always ask for a lawyer.”
My 6 and 9 year olds have been told to never voluntarily allow police access to our property, to never agree to entry to our home, to a search, and to never speak with them or answer their questions.
They are to ask for their parents and remain silent.
They have been drilled on how to interact with state agents.
This is how they are now trained:
Act with maximum force first; disregard innocence or nonresistance of target; concoct story later; superiors will justify.
I don't know how new this technique is, but apparently if you videotape the cops misbehaving, they can now take away your phone because it is "evidence" from crime scene. I wonder how often the cops end up "destroying evidence"?
.
Once every gun in the country is safely in the hands of the government, these guys with badges will become our loving protectors. Nothing to worry about.
Watch the Wayer Town videos on youtube.
I hope the district attorney is dusting off the law books, and put those cops in prison for assault, manslaughter, or any other charge they can be convicted of. At least, the cops should never be allowed into law enforcement ever again.
They went totally nuts in this case. The badge has no such power to harm a citizen except in defense of another, and these cops went way beyond the limits of their authority.
Just my opinion, for what it is worth.
“I bet you love listening to Hip-Hop all day.”
Can’t stand the genre. Nor can I stand feaux Freepers attempting to impersonate someone with a thought.
It won't be called "gun confiscation," it will be done for "public safety," which makes it OK.
My mistake.
You just sound like every cop-hating, ‘snitches wind up in ditches’, CIA invented AIDS, Malcolm X wannabe that I was confused.
I'll go along with that.
i know at least one app exists.
It SEEMS like a lot of DA's throw these cases. That's perfect, because the juries get the blame. In my area, a cop flipped out and gunned down a lady and got three years for manslaughter.
And in Maryland, off duty cops killed a man with Down Syndrome. After public outrage, they couldn't even get the grand jury to charge them. If they were "ham sandwiches" they'd be on trial for murder!
YOU sound ike the guy who begs for an extensive cavity search from every cop, metermaid, TSAtwit or jackbooted thug you encounter.
What has gone wrong with this country? I was not raised or taught to treat people in that fashion. So the guy was drunk, pick him up, take him to jail to sober up and release him the following morning.
Our country is developing an all-pervasive anger management problem at the very least.
